I was recently told by a friend of mine that I shouldn't use CCI Stinger ammo in my Ruger 10/22 .He really didn't say why.I purchased a couple boxes to try the last time I was at BP. I currently use Remington Golden and it seems to shoot fine without any problems but I thought I would try the CCI to see if it's any better or worst. Still haven't tried Federal as of yet, but getting the impression from this forum that it does do well in most Rugers. Any thoughts on the above would be appreciated.

Stingers have a slightly longer case and should not be used in a 10/22 Target model, or in any aftermarket barrel that has a Benz chamber.

If you have the standard barrel, you should be fine.

Stingers have a longer case and the 10/22 target has a very tight and unforgiving chamber. Other 10/22 cycle them just fine. Don't use them in the target model.

Smashed off a box of 50 the other day in my target model. Ran fine and shot very well, hmmmmmm...... Maybe I won't do that again.

I believe any rifle/barrel manufacturer that uses a Benz chamber will not recommend stingers.

Aside from a possible failure to extract (case getting stuck in the barrel), a bigger concern would be if the bolt doesn't completely close, the round gets fired, and the back of the brass blows up causing injury or death.

Stingers can also damage the chamber of the barrel.

If you have a 10/22 with the standard sporting chamber or any .22 LR with a sporting chamber, the CCI Stingers will be fine... if you have a tighter chamber (Bentz, Match etc...) you will be better off with other less "tight" loads... particularly if you have a semi-auto action. Common chamber specs for .22 LR below;

.22LR Chamber Dimensions:

Type______Length__Mouth Dia._Throat Dia._Taper @ Throat
Sporting____0.7751"____0.2307"____0.2270"
Bentz______0.6900"____0.2270"____0.2255"_____1.5° Taper
Match _____0.6876"____0.2267"____0.2248"
Win 52-D___0.5800"____0.2278"____0.2248"_____2.0° Taper

The "Ruger" 10/22 factory chamber is the "Sporting" chamber above.
The "Bentz" chamber is the 'match' chamber for semi-autos.
The "Match" chamber is for bolt actions.
The "Win M52-D" is a bolt action target rifle.

.22 Long Rifle Headspace: .0425" GO // .045" NO-GO
