Can you guys put a loaded mag into the Tavor with the bolt closed?

This is probably a bit of a newb question but i just took my Tavor out shooting for the first time and noticed that if the bolt is closed you cannot put the mag in. So i would have to reach into the rifle and push up the slide lock before i could load the mag. I did notice if i put one less round then capacity then it would work.

One thing i didnt try was pulling the bolt back as i loaded the mag but that would be awkward.

I guess my question would be is this standard with all rifles or is it because our mags are pinned? It also did the same thing on LAR mags.
 
I've never played with a Tavor but it sounds like your mag is pinned to 5 instead of the prefered 5.5

Depending how your mags were limited you may be able to adjust it slightly. My Cproducts mags are lanced and the tab can be bent down allowing the follower to drop a little more and that lets the mag go in fully loaded. Some of my other mags are riveted and your kinda stuck with what you have if that's the case unless you want to remove the rivet and put a new one in on a different side of the mag. Another option would be to take apart the mag and remove the follower and remove a tiny amount from the bottom of the follower leg where it hits the rivet. If you go this route take a very small amout off then try it for fit and then remove a little more and try again. Once it's removed you can't put it back on and you may have just created an illegal mag. You can always buy a new follower and try again but that would be a pain in the ass.

There are lots of options and if you are creative you will get it working without much trouble.

Mine does the same thing with fully loaded 10 round LAR15 mags and the pinned 5/30 that came with the rifle.
 
Someone brought it to my attention that if you were able to load 10 rounds in the mag and then put 1 round in the chamber and close the bolt you would have 11 in the gun. Is there any way this could cause a person legal problems?
 
I have a Tavor. Depending on the magazines, you may have issues. Some mags I have seem to be troublesome as though they are pinned a little tight. Oddly enough, the IWI mags are the worst. It seems the Tavor's bolt carrier has more meat on the bottom pushing town on the mag. A good smack on the bottom seats most just fine.

Also, lanced C-Products mags are complete f**king garbage. Worst purchase I've ever made.

Sorry about your luck but mine all work 100% in both my AR's.
 
Just take apart your mags and slowly file off a little of the bottom of the follower that hits the rivet, it's plastic usually so easy to do. One you get it to seat without smashing, your good.

Just be careful to check that you don't file too much and get a 6 rounder... Toss that follower if you do and buy a new one. No sense playing with legal fire for no reason.

Or if your really lazy, just use bolt bolt hold open and only load when bolt is back.

Thanks for the replies, im going to try to file the 5rnd one that came with the tavor, Ill probably pull apart the LAR mags as well and see if i can make them a bit less tight when they have all 10rnds in them. I tryed hitting the bottom of mine and they would not go in, maybe because everything is brand new.

Yes i have and i dont remember anything mentioned that specific. Only that pistol mags are 10rnds and rifle are 5. Maybe they did and i just dont remember, i havent had a semi-auto gun that would chamber a round and then allow you to put in a mag yet.
 
This is a bit off topic but is it bad for the bolt/extractor to put a round into the chamber and then release the bolt? It seems to close a bit harder then when its having to push a bullet out of a mag.

How could it cause legal problems? You can legally use the LAR mag's in anything they fit; doe's not matter if the chamber is loaded or empty. The AIA mag thing would really confuse you so I won't get into that one.
