That's a nice looking SxS! By all means - drop the Greener factory an email and see if they can give you any details. I think they can do a quick search with no charge and a detailed history for a nominal fee. Also, poke around on the web and see if you can track down a copy of Graham Greeners book "The Greener Story".

Putting a value on it can be a bit tough - I've always found it easier to buy a Greener than sell one! However, if it were mine I would be easily thinking somewhere around the north side of fifteen hundred, assuming everything checks out as being as solid and clean as it looks in the pictures. Check out some of the US based auction sites to see what people are asking for similar guns.

That's a really fine looking double. A letter to Greener is a good start. Value is hard to pin down but I would say it might be considerably north of $1500. Condition is really quite good as most of these old doubles had a hard life, this one looks better than most.

Scjordon, I would agree with Mike Webb. Gun looks to be in excellent condition but that's to be expected because its only 102 years old. Lol.

I think that as a mid grade Greener boxlock with the Greener safety, I would think I got a great deal if I paid $1200 for it and I would never pay $3000. I know that's a wide range to be considering but in selling these old guns you need the right buyer on the right day to get top dollar.

I collect guns like this but I don't pretend to be a expert on pricing. I look at a lot, here, in the US and overseas. This one isn't on my wish list (I want a Greener but a higher grade) so if I was looking at the ad, it would be a price that would motivate me. I have bought better guns for between $1000 and $1800. Please remember I am speaking as a buyer.

Having said all that it's a lovely gun with some history in your family. You should consider hanging on to it, using it and becoming a full fledged member of the SxS addicts club.

I have learned a bit more over on double gun shop, and they think a fh25 is top of the middle grade.
No worries about a family history and selling! My dad did not have it all his life and I am not interested in becoming a shooter of it.
I would be really sad if if only fetched 1200 though!
Thanks for the thoughts so far!!!!

Spoiled, spoiled!!:stirthepot2:
I agree with James. It depends on the day and who the buyer is with these old guns and thus there can be a wide range in price. Of course the more toward it is to the high range of price, the longer you are likely to have it. Personally for me, I would have a tough time dishing out more than $1500.00 for it as I too would look for a higher grade gun if I were going beyond that.

Hard to argue with Graham Greener's book. I would take 1cdog's advice over LeFusil's. It is specific and right out of the Greener book.

Kind of makes my earlier point though. These are all old guns we are talking about and establishing accurately exactly what model and then what is an appropriate price can be very difficult. With Greeners, the job is made easier because of the specific information direct from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Much harder with many other makes. I have a Belgian made gun from a large and influential maker that I have had for 6 years. Only last week was I able to establish with certainty what model it was.

Hope you get out of it what you want. Someone will enjoy that gun.

The last time I e-mailed Graham Greener at the address on greener's website I received a reply in less than 12 hours telling a bit, and telling me what info would be provided if I paid for a letter.
