Divin' into SKS

Been there, done that.

It isn't worth it.

Appreciate the SKS for what it is, and don't try to make it anything else.

And good choice on the non corrosive. My time is worth more then cleaning that damn thing constantly!

I bought a Mosin, as it is much easier to clean without any gas system, and makes a bigger boom. ;)

If you really wanna swap the stock get a timbersmith, tapcOs are ugly as hell!

I agree. The Timbersmith wooden laminate SKS stocks are very nice. They are also Tapcos however, since Timbersmith is owned by Tapco.

For $250????????

Seriously?

For an SKS?

So many better options in the EE for that kind of money.

I just picked up a Sportered Swedish Mauser with Leupold VXII mounted with Leupold hardware for $5oo bucks shipped.

If your buying an SKS just buy a damn SKS. Enjoy it foe what it is. A cheap gun that shoots cheap ammo, and is fun as hell.

Trying to add all this crap to the thing isn't gonna change anything. It's still just an SKS.

.

Trying to add things? That's the point of a cheap rifle(for me). If you want to mod it to look different it is cheap to do. I am adding things to mine and i'm not under any illusion I am going to be all of a sudden shooting 1000 yrds lmao. I dont think anyone else does either.

I agree. But there's always a 'better' way to spend money. It completely depends on what a person wants. If they really want an SKS with a Monte Carlo stock, there's that option. Btw, they are $199 cdn, plus the taxes, etc.

That's just your opinion. It does add weight to the gun, as well as more comfortably formed grip, cheek rest, and built in recoil pad, while still looking good and preserving more of the character of the SKS compared to other replacement stocks.

Another way to look at it is, some people have spent $300-400 or more for their refurb SKS when there was more demand. Now that supply is increasing, prices are down, and its actually more affordable to customize an SKS.

In the end its one $200 rifle out of two million. Its not a precious snowflake. Do what ever you want to it that makes you happy.

My rule is not to spend more on addons than the original firearm cost so with a SKS that doesn't leave much room.

More like one in 15 million actually. Btw... why not spend more in add-ons when you can so easy pair a new rifle to them? I would think a cheap plentiful rifle would be the best candidate for making an investment in add-on parts. Especially with a rifle that's in high demand.

More about value for the money. After you put $600 on a $200 rifle you don't get a $800 rifle. You get a $200 rifle with $300 in used accessories.

But to each their own. I say put whatever you want into the thing. Enjoy it. Shoot it.

I agree, each to his own. Some people may spend that $800 on something that isn't half as fun or interesting.

I could understand not throwing away money on a new plastic stock when so many are floating around. But half price used Timbersmith SKS stocks are no where to be seen, that I can find. So I think that's one accessory that will hold its value better.

Don't get me wrong, I have a great appreciation for the SKS, but as it comes. It is a super reliable gun at a great price, and ammo is cheap and plentiful. How could you not love that.

That Monte Carlo stock is not a useful add on! You are raising the comb on a gun that is meat for irons, and is hard to mount reliable optics on anyways. Unless you have a side mount drilled and tapped to the receiver you are hurting your gun making an uncomfortable cheek position for iron sights.

The issue for me is that with the SKS you are very limited. Accuracy is not great, mounting optics is difficult, it is pretty heavy, etc.

If you are gonna throw a bunch of money at it, then do it to actually improve the gun, with a side mount, and optics, then think about that laminate stock. The problem now is that you have a useful gun, but it is gonna weight 10 pounds!

Again, I have owned a couple and done all this crap to them. I regretted it and lost money in the end.

If I was doing it again it would be bone stock.

Just my .02 cents. No hate for anyone who thinks I am wrong.
