Looking at one in 20ga for the missus... Any one on CGN try one out?

Seems like a good entry level low recoil clay buster... Wonder if it will cycle with trap loads?

Claybuster?

With an 18 inch open choke, and ghost rings?

Definitely not!

Possibly with a 26-28 inch barrel with interchangeable chokes, and a bead sight, and I have handled one which I was impressed with. For the wife though it is probably one of the lightest shotguns I have handled so it may not be the easiest on recoil. It also has to have a gas ring changed for different power loads which I didn't feel like worrying about.

In the end I chose a Mossberg 930 as it got great reviews all around, and parts and service are far easier to come by.

i bust clays with my M4S90 all the time, great fun. its not the equipment, its the user.

Yeah and I can open soup cans with a hacksaw, but I wouldn't buy a hacksaw for that purpose, I would buy a can opener.

If the guys main purpose is shooting clays, which seems to be indicated in the OP, then the gun he is looking at is wrong in more ways then one.

Weatherby SA-459 TR

I've got one in 12 gauge. I haven't shot anything but slugs and buckshot out of it but it cycles those flawlessly. I took the rear ghost sight off and put a Bushnell trophy red dot (more accurately a red T) and it works like a dream. With both eyes open, the scope "disappears" and the Red T reticle seems to float in space. Should work well for short range coyotes. Quite accurate to 50 yards with slugs, deadly with buckshot but I haven't shot it any farther. I used an extra Benelli forearm attachment from an MR1 to mount a foregrip so its a pleasure to aim and shoot, very stable. I am still looking for a picatinny attachment that Weatherby shows on its website that attaches to the end of the mag tube. Anyone seen one or know where to get one?

Thanks folks, I think I will pass on the weatherby... I have enough tactical shotguns rite now anyway... Perhaps a nice over/under would fit in the safe better.

I've also been thinking of the Weatherby but in pump action. Not much info out there.

Your right, not much info other than a few reviews I found which happen to be very good. Took a chance and picked up the PA version with the "skull" cammo. It feels extremely well balanced...much better than my 870. The action is buttery smooth. Gonna put some slugs through it on Friday and I'm expecting good things :D

Someone had a 12g SA 459 at the range today. It was having some problems running light target loads. Am glad I went with a 930 Home Security, though the Weatherby has better sights + pistol grip.
