CCI Standard Velocity availability...

One thing I've been told was that the CCI sv in the paper boxes is different than the same ammo in the plastic boxes. My suspicions were confirmed after I weighed both and found that the paper boxed stuff was way more inconsistant. That being said were only talking .75-1 grain off for the paper boxed stuff.

I haven't any experience with the cardboard box version but I can attest to the plactic case rounds you speak of.

I just weighted 200+ CCI Std. Velocity rounds by RCBS digital scale. They went from a low of 50.6gr to a high of 51.1gr. Unfortunately, sorting them had little effect on improving accuracy so I spent a lot of time doing an experiment that yielded "zero" net gain. :confused:

Wow, weighing for me is the single most important thing I do to eliminate flyers and improve grouping.

I'm not saying it isn't a worthwhile endeavour overall, however, my Savage Mk2 BV saw absolutely no improvement in group sizes after weighing CCI Std. Velocity.

I shot at least 120 rds. @ 50 yds. yesterday and I could see right away there wasn't an improvement. The vertical dispersion was somewhat disappointing considering the effort that went into it. I didn't shoot them all though. Another rifle may respond positively to the sorting.

Incidently, I tried AE 38gr. HP's yesterday as well. I didn't bother to sort them as I just wanted to se if they were going to be worth the effort. I fired off 100 rds. of it @ 50 yds. Ironically enough, it was slightly more accurate than sorted CCI Std. Velocity. It functioned flawlessly through my BV, unlike the CCI ammo that had frequent extraction issues.

As cheap ammo goes, the American Eagle seems to perform very well in all of my CZ bolt rifles which gopher killers not paper punchers. FS

Well it might be safe to say your quest for CCI sv is over. Keep trying the AE stuff. I've heard that it works well I quite a few savages. That would be a bonus considering most crappy tires have it in stock. And they do special order as well according to the guy at my local store.

What mine really likes is Federal #710. CT had it and apparently they don't carry it any longer. Perhaps, it's been discontinued? It's the best I've ever tried short of the more expensive Lapua brand ammo.

CCI Std. Velocity is a good all-around choice but I'm thinking those AE 38's might be a great option as well considering they performed adequately.

I sent my FV-SR in for a barrel replacement today. I'll hold off buying anything in bulk at this point until I get it back in my hands. I'm also flirting with the idea of getting a CZ or possibly building a custom. At this point, I just want a very accurate rimfire. So far, none of mine have produced "internet sized groups" at 100 yards. However, I digress.

If you'd like I can send you some of my Fiocchi to try when you get your fvsr back. It seems to work well for me and it's ironically cheaper than CCI standard.

If I tell you you have to promise not to tell anyone else. Ok?
You can get it from island outfitters in Victoria. The problem with them is they won't ship ammo for what ever reason. Now remember don't tell anyone.

Damn, the ferry is too expensive to make a run over there. :HR:

Well I’ll be doing a run soon as I need to replenish my stock if you’d like we can make an arrangement to pick up or have delivered. I will most likely be buying 10k rounds for the year.
let me know
