I am in need of a better method of transporting my handguns to the range, as right now I'm carrying all 3 in there support cases. Is it legal to transport handguns triggered locked in a range bag ? As one bag for everything would be ideal

trigger locked and locked range bag is just fine. At least that's how I do it. I haven't found a handgun case yet that you can trigger lock your gun and still lock the hard case.

A Locked range bag is just fine, I use a thick locking case for four pistols that I got from WS for $50, it carries my pistol, revolver, mags, and ammo...

I am not sure about the ammo in the same container as the firearms. I think that may be an issue.

I use a case I got from my local shop. It is similar in size to a brief case but deeper. I put all 5 pistols in it and all my mags. It has foam to keep them from sliding around and has built in combo locks. I also store my pistols in it at home and just tuck it away in a closet.

Lately I've been using some soft pistol rug style cases I bought at Princess Auto.

They hold 2 pistols and there's a flap pouch on the outside. I use a small combo lock through a loop to lock the zipper.

The cased pistols fit inside my larger range bag and another bag for ammo also fits in the same range bag.

Transport of restricted and prohibited firearms

Unload the firearms;
and
Attach secure locking devices to the firearms;
and
Lock the firearms in a sturdy, non-transparent
container;

I use plastic pistol cases but I bet those "pouches" are harder to cut through.
(note; being cut-proof is not a condition of transport. Just an observation)

The vast majority of lockable case options are easy to break into.
I think the idea(not a very good idea) is to keep us from shooting bad drivers on the way to the range...:D

I put everything in my backpack. Pistols have cable locks on them and ammo is in the same bag.

Or some just put a trigger lock on and carry the gun in one of those sheepskin or cloth lined zip up pistol cases. Unfortunately, I doubt that those methods will stand up to scrutiny by a LEO. Please tell me why I'm wrong as that is what I would like to do as well.

If one could fit a small padlock to a zip up case or a back pack, it might actually become legal.

Thanks. Think I'm gonna go with range bag that locks and carry everything in it except my targets and RCMP Booklet or Printout.

Small but significant correction.

Carry a copy of the RCMP's rules for Transport, Storage and Display with you, NOT inside the locked bag.

I don't know why but double locks is what they want to see.
How strong the case needs to be is not clear so that's up to us basically but as a minimum you need to lock the gun and the case.
If you want to throw everything in a pack and use that as your case fine....just throw a $10 combination lock on your zipper and go shooting.

I have a redhead aluminum case that holds 4 pistols no problem with foam and trigger locks inside

Hi, same as carlo81, went to canadian tire and bought an aluminium tool case
(brief case but deeper) for 35$. Striped out the interior and bought foam.drew round the pistols and cut out........... Great for two pistols+ mags. Oh and the lid foam pops out to use as a range table pad........
Import
