Stages for the 2012 Ironman
http://www.mgmironman.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=50&Itemid=48

Most the stages are 90+ rounds.
There are 11 stages.
That's well over 800 rounds for the competition.
Stage 4 shot from a zipline!!!!!

I'm going to try and go to this next year.
I may need to get a few extra mags if I do.

I've been wanting to go there for years. I just can't afford the time to drive there and back. Flying with all the equipment is another big hurdle as well.

Let me know what your plans are for next year.:):)

Well for one, I'm dropping some weight and getting my cardio up.
I'm not stupid enough to enter Trooper division, but these things are multi-minute stages.
No "short" courses of fire. LOL

Final decision will be around registration time next year.
Have to make sure finances are in order.

BPCR, Guninhand and I went in 2007, the first Canadians to attend, we had a blast. I won a DPMS Panther in .308 and had Questar handle the importation (excellent service).

If you have a thin skin, thicken it up as the ROs are like Drill Sergeants:p

Holy ####! I was interested in this before I checked out the website. Now its on, lets make it happen!

We won't have the round count finalized until probably the fist of April, but if you figured 350 rounds of rifle and pistol, 350 shot, and 100 slugs, you should be safe. THESE ARE ROUND COUNTS!! NOT HOW MANY ROUNDS YOU WILL NEED!!! If you don't ever miss, you will be good with this. If you think you might miss, you should probably bring some more. We don't require them on any stage, but 20 or 25 buckshot might come in handy.

Flying with the firearms shouldn't be an issue, but making sure you have ammo that works best in your guns may.
If the logistics of having your ammo show up at the match aren't too cost prohibitive, flying is the way to go.
Otherwise a few guys doing a road trip with a cube van full of guns and ammo might be necessary.
So long as we don't get pulled over!!!!
That would be interesting.

My desire to have fun is slowly being outpaced by my desire to place as high as possible in these competitions. I'd at least need my slugs and rifle ammo unless we could have a range day to sight in whatever was available for purchase locally.

According to google maps, its only 3,600km.
Couple of red bulls and I'm good!

Didn't we figure it out... ;)

Fly Toronto to Vancouver... Then drive the rest. :)

10 hours from Vangroovy... 'Beats 36 hours in a van with..... Well, with anybody.

You guys went from New Brunswick?
wow

How did you travel with all your gear?
I'm guessing you flew?

Rent a fricken motor home!

LoL....

First hand experience with renting a motorhoem with a bunch of guys (from work) to do a road trip...

'Left Brampton at noon... By the time we made it to the Burlington Skyway bridge we figured we'd lost our security/damage deposit and the first fist fight occured.

Never again!! :D

Do the other big matches run the same way with going prone with a loaded handgun?

Says this is a DQ. Don't think this could of happened at FNH (my only reference) with the dump bins they used.

IIRCC at FNH if a stage started say with rifle and you were prone Your pistol was holstered, mag in chamber empty...

For example stage 8.
You started prone behind the Barret... Moved to your own rifle to shoot prone then got up, moved towards postition to shoot pistol steel... Drawing your pistol, rackin' your slide and engaging targets.
So yeah... Pistol was pointing up range, but... It's chamber empty under RO supervision.

At any of these matches you'd never have occasion to re holster a hot pistol during a CoF.
You either wind up dumping it into a bucket or... You end with pistol... Unload show clear

Obviously, NOT. I haven't been able to check it off my list and maybe sell all my guns as I don't think any other match will ever compare to Ironman.
