Is there a gap between the leading edge of the muzzle and that portion of the device where the threading ends and the device chipped? Or can you guys screw it down enough so the muzzle contacts this portion? If there is a gap, this area will fill with superheated gas every time you shoot. It's the heat and pressure of the muzzle effluent that is causing it to chip. It's so close to the muzzle that it shouldn't hinder accuracy in any measurable way but it will probably continue to wear over time, especially if you have it on an SBR. I'd be watching your crown closely on an SBR as well.
IMO a "gap" acts kinda like a mini baffle, but wouldn't do anything positive in any way because it is too close to the muzzle. All it would do is wear on the device at that point, and possibly cause additional wear on the muzzle. And, it's not a good design element in a flash hider for a few obvious reasons.
