Considering my first build, here is what I am looking at:

Barnard SM action 308
Timiney Trigger
Broughton or Bartlein barrel (not sure of the twist yet)
Dolphin tactical or modular stock

I will be shooting mainly out to 1000 meters and would like to get to the competition level by the end of 2013. I think this combo will do the job once I learn to do my part. What do you guys think??

Still learning what the differances are in them but the FT/R matches here in NS seem to be the way I will end up going. Still need to looking at the rules before I commit to anything. I really just like to shoot for relaxation and fun dont want to get to competitive with the whole thing

Your best bet would be to head over to the range and see what we are playing with. F/Tr would be a great starting point. Luckily you live very close to NSRA (schedual posted on line) the best 800m private rifle range in the country. Peter Dobson (Hirsch Precision 829-2932), who also lives close by sells many of the components that you are looking for. Personally, I would spend a little extra on the awsome 2 stage triggers that Peter has. May 13th there should be a few of us at the range for practice.

Hey Ron thats who I am dealing with on this build thanks, just wanted to see what other opinions where on the hardware. Making sure I do it right .

Great idea, will look at them more closely, more or less thought timiney because I see them on a lot of custom builds.

ftr would be the way to go as far as a class

308 1 in 12 twist 30 inches
barnard trigger
any of the top quality barrel makers will do just fine
thats my 2 cents

Why not use the Barnard trigger? I do not have one but understand they are one of the best around.
The SM is a Rem700 version of the Barnard, it is a bit smaller in diameter and uses a Rem&700 trigger hanger, It is not designed for the barnard type trigger

bulldog284 and i are on the same page. The barnard trigger is a very nice unit. nothing wrong with your barrel choices and the 12 twist is a good one. smith, gaillard, mclennan schmitt and mcphee make good barrels here in canada. the last mclennan i put on was ratchet rifled, except it went the wrong way. i think mcphee and smith make the best but i am old grumpy a set in my ways.
