I'm looking for optics for a .223 black rifle. I don't really want to pay alot since the rifle isnt worth alot anyway.

Is there a 1-4 option or something like that that doesnt cost too much?

seems like you have to chose between a red dot 1x or a scope.

Millet DMS 1-4x24 is good for the money.

Respectfully disagree - I hate mine. I find it dim with meh eye relief.

For not a ton more money you can get the Leupold Mark AR 1-4x, or a Nikon 1-4x. At the $500 point, the Viper PST 1-4x is an awesome scope that you'll have forever, with a warrentee to match.

Hmmm, the ones I looked through seemed alright, to be fair I don't own one, I went for the Vortex PST 1-4x with the ADR mount and have absolutely no regrets.

The new Sightron SIII 1-7

It's a gem

My price is $920 plus ship and tax.

Given the range of utility, ease of use and lack of "adjustment" between functions, it is very well priced.

how much would a quality dot cost? how much to add a magnifier and supporting rings? how much for a variable and a add on dot sight?

how easy it is to use any of this stuff through the full range of shooting you would want to do with a AR or BR?

You need to look at what the Sightron gives you in optical performance. At this time, nothing on the market comes close.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. I still need glass for my AR, and might give this one some serious thought. How is the reticle on the scope?

I am in the same boat looking for a glass for my 14.5" AR and I came across the Hi-lux 1-4 that is available at Wolverine and Wanstalls. They retail for $400 and I like the reticle in them. They also have zero stop turrets.
I'm going to give it a try as soon as Wanstalls gets them back in stock.

100 % agree with this! I just spent purchased/ordered a LMT off set red dot mount, Leupold Delta Sight and a Night Force 2.5-10X32 and this scope would have done what I was wanting! Next rifle I suppose....which is next month :) Extra kick in the shorts is Jerry is awesome to deal with (shameless plug but your golden man). But whats up with the reticule Jerry?.....I understand most of them out there are gimmics but at least spec it with a standard mildot IMHO.

I love my EOtech XPS2 and it was an acceptable price. However, in your case it would cost extra for add-on magnifier.

As for the Elcan Spectre, I think thats one of the most ###y looking scopes out there, even with the price tag.

Elcan SpecterDr 1-4x. I'm saving up for one in flat dark earth as we speak. The glass is very clear but at $2075, they aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. If they're good enough for US SOCOM, they'll work on my rifle. If only I could buy a brand new SU-230 model in Canada.
