585 NYATI.. The MOST Ignorant recoil I have felt.

Small wirey guys handle recoil better than big muscular types because the little guys "give" with the recoil--big guys "absorb" the recoil and it punishes them worse.

your right. bigger guys take more of the thump. little guys get pushed around.
i am i big guy. i still put more lead down range.

600gr at 2400 would be a light load for that gun. My 510 will do that. Ignorant is the word for that kind of recoil but it can be managed

I like big stuff, but the .585 begs the question, what is it for? If a .577 was designed around a 750 gr bullet, and the .600 Nitro for a 900 gr bullet, the .585 should fall somewhere in between. Mark Sullivan tried a .700 Nitro shooting 1000 gr bullets for a season, and considered it too much of a good thing, one might suspect the .585 is as well.

The 500jeffries I had was enough to cure me from wanting any more stupid sized cals I can shoot my 375H&H and its quite pleasant in comparison

Want a rifle that kicks? I have heard that the most vicious kicking rifle is the 378 Weatherby. No I have not tried it!!

I owned a 460 Wby for a while. Lovely screwbean mesquite stock, Pendleton muzzle brake, and the most ridiculous recoil you have ever experienced!

Guys used to want to try it out all the time. It was the most entertaining part of a visit to the range.

378 is not bad at all. 460 is a bit more but still OK with a scope and 500/510 is about my limit. This takes years of practice and not for every one.

I was told "Nayeti" means Cape Buffalo in Swahilie.
Hope I remembered my facts correctly. Lol!

I wouldnt even consider shooting it.
Worked too many years to eliminate my flinch! Now that my flinch is gone, I refuse to invite him back!!! Lol!

The nastiest rifle I've ever fired was a Weatherby Mark V actioned, laminate stocked
9.5 lb.unit chambered in .475 A&M magnum with full house rounds. 500gr. solids
at 9800+ft. lbs. energy. I took 2 shots with that gun and called it a day.
That rifle was bought by my buddy for $500.oo back then, and I passed it over
at the gun shop when the original owner brought it in cause of lack of funds.

This was in the mid 80's. I wish I had bought that beasty then, because
I like shooting big-ass cannons with reduced loads and cast bullets.
Now that we have Trail Boss powder, I'll gladly take a .585 Nyati if the
price was right and go do some stake busting and hunting with'er for sure!
