Am I going to be hassled if I paint my LAR mags?

I want paint my LAR mags so that they match the matte black of the coupler.

Think anyone would hassle me about it if they couldn't read the "10 round pistol magazine" writing?
 
Good question. I would like to say no because most people know that they are available and are the only ones of their kind. Maybe to be on the safe side just put a little strip of tape over the writing when you paint them so that it's visible when removed. At least that's what I was planning to do with mine. I don't like the gray either.
 
I wouldn't risk it personally. I'm sure you'd be fine as far as range nazi's go but on the off chance you encounter an LEO it might be a hassle. Lots of us carry the rcmp print out about those mags just in case. If there are no markings, you might not be able to prove it's a pistol mag.

You have to decide if the risk is worth the gain, there should be no trouble, but you could get unlucky. If you're using them in an AR on a range I wouldn't be to worried. I probably wouldn't take the risk using unmarked mags in a Tavor out in a field however.
 
I forgot to mention earlier, I am a range Safty officer at my gunclub, and as long as I could read the print on the mag I would have no problem. Hence why I will be taping over the lettering before painting mine.
 
The problem with just taping off the lettering is that it would look ridiculous.

The lettering runs almost the entire length on the body from follower to base.

As long as the pistol mag thing is still visible, then it should not be problem.
The label must be visible or you are in possession of a prohibited device i believe.
 
Does anyone manufacture a 10 rnd ar Rifle Mag?

Does it really matter as long as the mag is the short body style.

OMG am i going to jail if the markings wear of my mag, I've got some of the first batch of mags and I know that you can't read anything on there anymore with all the wear and tear on them.

Lots of people manufacture 10 round mags, the issue becomes if there are no markings on your mag to indicate it is a pistol mag how do you prove it is not a rifle mag?

Excellent thread. I was wondering the very same thing. I dont have my mags yet, but was hoping the writing was stamped in somehow, but it seems that is not the case.

Covering off the writing would be very difficult it seems
 
#### it, I'm doing it.

If somebody wants a problem, they can charge me with possessing an illegally painted device and we'll go to court and make some news.

I haven't found a rule or law that says that I can't do what I want with my own legally possessed, personal property.
 
If it makes you feel better some of the LAR mags I just got from Questar have the lettering so faint you couldn't tell what they were from a couple feet away. The lettering can be seen up close so I'm guessing (notice that word) that you should be ok if anyone were to inspect the mags.
