Mossberg Night Train

4"groups my Rem. VTR will do 1" right out of the box 4" group is not good
My stock Norinco M14 will do 2.5 with scope mounted on it and its a far cry from a target rifle I have a old BSA 300WIN THAT WILL SHOOT 2"or less.

I think you have a junktrain 1. I picked up a NT2 when Cabelas had them on sale. I am a little disapointed with the qualitly of the stock mostly, when I load up a new round it is a little frustrating seeing the whole action rotate and flex. The bipod is definately a good quality harris on the NT2's.

I was pulling in around 4" groups @ 100 yards with federal 180gr SP and it is my first bigger caliber rifle so I am actually pretty pleased with the accuracy. With my savage 22mag I run about 1-1.5" groups at 100yds. Just not to shooting the big cannon yet!

I think it will really benfit from a stock bedding, especially to get rid of the flex.

Boyd's does sell wood stock for the 100ATR action, the problem is finding a trigger guard and of course you lose the epic mall sniper/ninja look!

100yards, .308 trained this penny! I can do the same with my 8mm k98 and 2.4x Redfield but that’s not cool and black looking, also it would take a 2-3 shots before I get er haha. Picked this little rig up for 400, jesus that was 2 years ago I had that thing..time flys, unless my clock is wrong on my camera hahah. I only ended up putting a box and a half through it, a little expencive to feed for a target/fun plinker.

I thought the night train was awesome! I Couldn’t afford the II so picked up the original. I got poked on by my buds for having a "cheap wanna be precision rifle"..all I could afford though! I gave in to peer pressure and traded it..picked up a hb 700 ended up selling that too. ANY who I bet your night train II will shoot wonderfully. Damn do they sure look cool!

Only if you have a bad taste of everything..... Night train might look good.
Specially the 50 bmg shark muzzle brake on a gun that is on a smaller side.
I'm sure people who buys them might have different opinion but I refuse to find out how they perform since I just don't like the look.
But sure hell can't beat the price! Or get savage for $300 and put 3x12 leupold. That would be around 600-700 price range. But then it does not have the tactical look like night train!

To be honest I think it looks like a cartoon rifle. That brake and cheap glass is just over the top. When fashion dictates form at a bargain price I'd be suspect of the quality.

If you bought one as a starter rifle and are happy with it that's cool. Just don't forget it's just a cheap bolt gun tarted up to look like something it isn't.

I'm not knocking them for the price But dear god I eXpect them to be safe . I just don't want to chance it I saw a mossberg at a local shop not a night train but one of there regular ones where the rifling had gone wrong from factory brand new in the rack I noticed at the end of the barrel there were little burs the rifling had not gone quite all the way to the end of the muzzle I sh-t you not when they had fired a test round at factory it had blasted the last bits out there was only less than 1/32 of an inch that something had gone wrong right at the muzzle I showed it to the store owner and he pulled it and had the local gun smith re-crown the muzzle. It turned me off there rifles altogether

Please, please PLEASE don't fire this rifle without having it checked out by a competent gunsmith. And even then, have the bolt handle welded to the bolt to save you from a catastrophic failure.
You have bought a rifle that could maim or kill you.

I have no clue what you guys talking about with this bolt issue. Please please send me some links and sourses as my brother shoots the rifle, and I kinda like his face on.....

I just spoke with Mossberg customer service in regards to this issue. They have looked over a few select issues in association with these reports and say NONE are due to factory bolt failure. They say that only a handful have reported failure and every case is due to customer bolt disassembly and reassembly in an improper fashion. They said if there was a major concern with factory bolt failure, they would have issued a recall ASAP."

All I've seen is just rumors on forums, I've never seen any actual article or proof of these bolt problems, sounds like a myth some Mossberg haters are trying to keep alive...G:

For starters every true nutter knows that if your buying a "precision" rifle/ scope package from the manufacturer and its less than the price of a Rem 700 SPS with no scope (the bare minimum of quality say) then it's going to suck. Does anyone know who actually manufactures these? Is it mossberg or is it someone making it for mossberg?

They obviously have not looked at this one!

Actually, they have, because they replaced the rifle!

Click on the link in post 32 above.

Well I did see that link, I also did research on line, I have sent a request to Mossberg for info however....... there seems to be at this time insufficient evidence to support this claim.

The case study listed above speaks to how cheap it may be, but not definative proof that it is inherently dangerous.

I am sure that unless there is a massive cover up by mosberg that there would be hundreds or thousands of examples out there.

But I await an answer from mossberg

And what kind of answer do you expect the manufacturer to give?

I'm not sure what you'd consider to be sufficient or definative, but why not ask your brother? After all, it's his face- maybe you should make sure he reads this thread.

As for me, there's no way in hell I'd ever shoot that thing, or even continue to own it. The risks are simply too great.

Mossberg is heading down the "Build 'em for looks, but fvck the quality" trail
in a big way these days. Ivar Mossberg must be into the nose candy and not
properly managing the product design team.
If these guys ain't careful, they'll lose all credibillity fast.
I'd buy a Norinco over a Mossberg.
