Hey,

Just got a GSG 1991...

shoots great-no hickups EXCEPT

There appears to be the standard 1911 slide release/hold open AS WELL as the mag holds the action open upon firing the last round...?

the mag followers even have a steel pin at the rear to take being bumped by the slide (the point where the slide would normally scoop a fresh round into the chamber)

what am I missing here?-as it sits the pistol DOESNT function as a true 1911 (or any 'real' auto matic pistol) i.e-shoot pistol until empty-drop mag-replace with full mag-hit slide releasse-continue firing

with the GSG its: shoot pistol until empty-PULL mag out-slide goes forward-replace mag-rack slide-continue firing....

am i 'tarded??

Mine too, holds back, drop mag, put in fresh mag, release, fire.........just like other 1911 should........

I got kicked off the short bus....

anything helpful...?....bueller?

Maybe faulty mags? Can you try someone else's mags? Also, if you can comfortably lock the slide back by pushing up on the slidestop when no mag is in the gun then my guess is either a faulty slide stop or magazine. I had a faulty slidestop I had to replace on one of my Kimbers.

Trying someone elses mags is a good start.

Testing the function of the slidestop is also a good start.

A lot of people who think they have a faulty slidestop are actually riding the stop with their weak hand thumb and interfering with its operation. Easy check for this is load a couple of rounds in a mag then fire it with strong hand only (or weak hand)to see if the slide locks back on the last round.

Another thing to look at for your mags not dropping clear is if you are pinning the mag in the gun instead of punching the mag release quickly to get a smooth drop. Experiment a little with dropping your mags. Make sure the gun is vertical - gravity is your friend :) - and the punch the release with a quick on and off action. If you hold the mag release in your mags will hang up almost every time.

OMG-some useful posts!!

it appears as though all three mags dont 'catch' the slide stop-or the slide stop doesnt 'reach' into the mag well deep enough

after shimming each mag follower so it rode as far to the left as possible the slide stop started functioning correctly

although-I still wonder why the mag followers have the steel reinforcing pin at the rear.....

This is the first time we have heard of an issue such as this. Can you please send me an email with pictures of where the magazine is not catching so I can look in to the problem.

Please send the email to rpatterson@blueline-activities.com

Thank you for your help and I will look in to the issue at hand.

Best regards,
