I just bought one and am wondering about a couple of things :

Why did they spot weld the flash eliminators on ? How do I remove the F/E without damaging anything ?

There is no bayonet available for these guns, right ? I ask because grinding off the bayonet lug would make piston removal for cleaning much easier. It does look good though..Real good..

Thanks TG,
I saw this one before and want to avoid the breaking of the F/E if possible.
Makes me wonder why they welded them on to begin with ?
Any ideas ?

This past weekend I removed my flash suppressor the way the video explains but I used a large brass punch and a regular work bench vise, wrapping the reciever in an old tee shirt. My rifle is a "2010" manufacture and with a 5lb maul, it took only 1 hit to break the welds. I didn't hit the flash suppressor very hard either.

I beat that #### with a hammer and a giant chunk of metal until I broke the weld. Flash hider isn't broken but the reason I took it off is because the blade sits a good 10 degrees to the right (what a piece of ####) and was completely messing up my 100 yard shots

10 degrees when viewed looking towards muzzle??

I put mine in a bench vise between two wood blocks with a semi-circular hole in each side (0.70" diameter). I gave it one good whack with a small hand sized sledge and a steel bar similar to the video. It broke the weld with one shot, and then it's just a matter of backing off the castle nut and giving it a few more successive taps with the hammer. I think the chances of breaking the flash hider are low (probably 5% chance or less).

Don't ask WHY with a chinese manufature rifle, it only leads to frustration and anger.

For example, why did they manufacture a high quality hammer forged and heat treated receiver, and then leave machine marks and rough edges all over it? I just sent mine off to Arma-Coat to get it Nitron finished after much sanding with emery cloth. That should fix the problem.

Undue set screw on the front of the sight
Back off castle nut a bit
Secure upside down in a vice
Place steel bar at base of bayo lug and use a big hammer
Once it breaks the weld and moves up against the castlenut again , back off the castle nut some more and hit it lightly.

I have taken off 8 of them like this with no damage to the rifle or flash eliminator

The bayonet would have to be modified to fit as the gas plug gets in the way.

As for the why.......I understand that it was part of the original shipping agreement between Norinco and the USA. In order to ship to USA mainland, the flash hiders had to be "fixed".
For what it's worth I hear talk of future changes in this area as they no longer ship to the States, so they may finally get around to "not" spot welding for those coming to Canada. We will have to just wait and see.
Hope that helps.

You may be surprised when you attempt to remove your flash hider, I recently removed mine thinking I needed to find the biggest baddest hammer available. Once I loosened off the castle nut and gave a little tap with a small hammer I noticed it moved. The weld was so bad that it didn't even stick, leaving one small mark on the barrel that i didn't even need to file down. I'm not sure what their QC is like but I don't think they cared too much when doing that part of my rifle and yes!! My rifle was purchased new from a dealer so I know it wasn't removed before I got it.

Mine came off really easily

I just got a shorty from Canada Ammo and mine came off really easily as well. It only took a couple of light taps from a hammer on my bar to make it come off.

Good to hear as I don't want to grind off the bayonet lug in order to remove the piston for cleaning.
I doubt I'll ever shoot it 500 times (the # of shots suggested before piston cleaning)but you never know.

You wouldn't have to do that anyway, just move the gas cylinder lock to the side to give the piston the clearance it needs.
