My first post registry gun purchase. A Savage Cub. This model comes with the accutrigger, a rudimentary aperture sight, and a 11 3/4-inch length of pull.
They are made in Canada. I purchased this one from Wholesale Sports for 159$+tax and shipping.
Sighting in was a bit difficult as the windage is a matter of loosening a set screw and moving the sight over and tightening it back up. There are no gradients or clicks or anything to assist in calibrating the sights.
Unfortunately it was impossible to set the elevation. I had the sights at the lowest setting and the rifle was still hitting 3 inches high at 25 yards. This is unfortunate as the purpose of the rifle is to teach my son marksmanship, and he will have to learn to do a six o clock hold in order to hit. That is going to be a bit tougher of a challenge for him.
That is it for druthers. The rifle is drilled and tapped for a scope.
The trigger was a bit stiff but it is adjustable, however I did not touch it as it is for a child.
Now for the surprising part. The rifle is accurate. I was expecting can plinking level accuracy. This is what I got with cci blazers, that extremely short stock and crude sights. These are 5 round groupings at 25 yards.
I am hoping to get my son out to the range next week so that he can shoot for the first time.
So pretty happy with my purchase. It is legally unregistered
