My New Mosin From SFRC

Thnx! I hate to admit it, but all my other firearms are getting jealous Hahaha... My Russian rifles are always the first thing i grab when i open the gun cabinet.
Some fellow gun enthusiasts came over for the unveiling yesterday and i have to say we were all amazed @ how good the bore is... It shoots straight as an arrow too. These rifles are a steal! Oh and it cost a little extra money yesterday, as i found that it didn't fit my only available gun case so i had to make a swift trip to Wally-World. LoL
Nice rifle, what year is she? You'll never go wrong with mosins, rugged, reliable, and easy to maintain, an excellent combo in my opinion. If you hunt big game and your eyes are good, you won't need another rifle for a long while, I hunted with a Russian M38 for over 20yrs. Enjoy, and remember, the more you shoot her the better you'll get. Cheers.
I so agree with everything you said. The mosin will be my hunting rifle this fall! The SKS is a 1954 Tula built, and the Mosin is a 1942 Izhevsk built rifle.
Absolutely Whitey... This mosin rocks the casbah.... I cannot wait for deer season.. I'll have to flip a coin to decide whether to take the SKS or the Mosin.. I think its gonna be the Mosin but we'll see. I'd like to hear from others who got a Mosin from this batch.. Everyone else have as much luck with theirs as I did with mine?
Very nice to hear that you used a M38 for such a long time. My primary hunting rifle has always been my Lee Enfield (for 21 years) and has never let me down, but this year is time for a change. I like to use my rifles but they all get treated like gold.

Same here. Out of three, one bore was just OK, the other two were horrible at best and they were refurbs unfired in Canada too.
Once bitten, twice shy. Unless that bore is excellent or better, No thanks!
My Polish M44 has a very good bore.

Can somone please explain to me why Curtton moved my thread from the Redrifle to Milit Surplus? I see lots of sks look @ me threads and such there, and bizam.. i get moved... Ya my buddy has a 43 izzy 91/30 from that batch....
He says the cosmo is in the barrel still and he can see the tool marks in the bore like it had the rifling cut with an excellent quality wood rasp.
He asked specifically for a 1930's manufactured Tula with a good bore and a good stock if nothing else.
And NOT counter bored!
Guess what he got?!!!!!
They told him that the cross pin in the wrist, rear recoil lug splice,toe splice,and fore end splice were RAREITIES and thus collectible! LMAO!
MY Polish M44 may have a .003" over bore but she is otherwise perfect and I shot cast boolits any how.
These guns are all WW2 manufacture with lotts of "fritz is coming" put into their craftsmanship.

Oh dear.... that's too bad about your buddy's rifle.. No counter boring on mine... I would have preferred a Tula, but i'm very happy with my Izzy... I'm being honest when i say that the bore is immaculate and the condition VG+. It mighta been just luck of the draw, but since getting it yesterday i've got 60 rounds through it and with every cycling of the bolt i just love it more.

Ya no kidding! The title is RED RIFLES.
1) The Mosin Nagant is RED both in origin and color.
2) Its a RIFLE unlike the sks or Cz858 which are actually a carbines and the Cz is more PINK than red
3) The Mosin Nagant is the ORIGINAL red rifle.
Now if you had of posted somting about a spanish mauser,Lee-Enfeild etc than I could see the boot. But no you didn't.
Some people are just too damn picky and whiny. Next thing you know there will be a forum for every brand, make, model & caliber simply because of this.

Did I mention his trigger is as long as the Volga and as creepy as a morgue?
He did get a tula front barrel band.
He says it cycles nice and is loose not tight. Infact when closed the bolt head rattles in the gun when shook like dice at a craps table! So loud I could hear it over the phone.
He hasn't shot it yet as he is still scraping half the earth's supply of cosmoline out of it.

LOL... I'm getting quite a picture of his franken-mosin, from how you've described it! mine is quiet (till you squeeze the trigger), head space is perfect, tight as anything... only problem i have is the safety. Sweet lord mother of f*ck! You need both hands, a hammer, a tow strap, and a goat to pull it back over the spring tension!

On the bright side it will probably NEVER, EVER fail due to wear.....now I dare you to actually use it in a hunting situation LoL
The deer will hear you grunting, groaning and swearing from the next MNU.
If the M-N trigger from timney wasn't 4x the $$$$ of a mauser competition trigger I'd get one and fix both the trigger AND safety in one fell swoop.
Mind you I've shimed mine and it is pretty decent for a mil-surp trigger. But a timney will cost you more than these M-N's do!

Ya my buddy says taking the bolt apart to clean the cosmo out of the firing pin was a real treat. He says it wust take an illiterate commie with bare feet and aposable big toes along side super human hand strength to do it properly.
I just laughed and told him that I can do it blind folded, and after a few times so will he.
Of course my Polish has a slightly different bolt head which simplifies things slightly.

oh hell ya.... I can already take this and my sks apart blindfolded, mix up all the parts and just go to it with reassembly. I'm going to measure my trigger pull effort and travel tomorrow, and I'm going to disassemble the bolt and see what i can do about the hard pull.. I looked pretty nasty today with my shoe lace tied around the back of the bolt into a loop today so i could get a bit of extra leverage to get the safety on.... I sh*t you not....
