Copper buildup in Mosin Nagant rifles

If you want to clean the copper out of your bore fast and easy then just use a foam bore cleaner.

Most cases the WW2 era Mosin Nagant barrels are rifled with what appears to be a fine quality wood rasp.
There is usually lots of scratches and voids that shread the copper jacket material on contact.

FYI windex no longer contains ammonia so does nothing to kill corrosive mercury fulmanate fouling or copper fouling. It does have surfactants that will wash away some deposits however... But then so does the ATF in your Ed's red.

Ciphery, I like the Windex more to let the water content cut into any residual oil more than anything else. It lets the water get to the salts that we're after that much more easily. I suppose even regular water with a few drops of dish or laundry liquid soap in it would do the same thing.

Yesterday I shot the cleanER but still less than pristine Tula. The results were far better than the earlier session. I managed some sub 5 inch groups at 100 yards and at the end of the 30'ish rounds I shot I managed a 4 and 3 inch group. My eyes are such that I'm sure the 3 inch group is likely more good luck than good skills. Or perhaps I'm getting better at using the plain irons for this style of shooting. More time at the range will tell the tale.

Coming up next substitute rubber recoil pads from Westrifle for all three of the Mosin clan sharing the house with me. My shoulder was a little stiff all last evening....:D

I'll stop in and get some Wipe Out or maybe that 7.62 stuff over the next couple of days and finish the job. The Hoppes is slow going even if it is getting there.

I got mine at a gun show. There is a guy out here in BC that I see selling it at nearly every show I've been to. I'm sure somebody on here knows him, but I do not have his contact info.

It would not mix at all in the Ed's Red mixture due to it being all solvents and oil with no other aqueous ingredients. At least I'm pretty sure that is the case. I'd have to try some. At best though it would produce a Moose Milk like suspension if it mixed at all.
