Cabelas is a kick ass store...

They have some good deals, but I had an issue at Cabelas in Maine where one of the staff members took a Glock out of the display, with a magazine in it, didn't prove it clear, and then pointed it at my 1 yr old son to demonstrate the laser sight attached to it. She had absolutely no clue about firearm safety. I had a lengthy discussion with the store manager about it.

With the possible exception of firearms, I think WSS may actually have better selection for certain things - but I think it entirely depends on what you're looking for. WSS certainly seems to have more retail space than Cabelas (although the displays and fudge counter are nice touches). Staff are certainly friendlier and more helpful at Cabelas. And you can order anything from the Cabelas catalog and have it delivered to the store no charge.
As someone else pointed out, maybe this will inspire WSS to become a better retailer. And if not...
Obviously....but my intention was to demonstrate that they apparently hire staff off the street, the people working the gun counter at every Cabelas or Bass Pro Shop I've ever been in haven't been gun nutz, they're just normal retail staff without specific knowledge or training in guns other than how to sell them.
Well the best part about cabelas is that it is competition for wss. And was needed I just hope wss keeps there shelfs full it's pretty sad when you walk in there n half the shelfs r empty. All I'm really trying to say is that wss needed a wake up call. It's nice to have competition. Everyone likes a great deal. I will definitely be shopping at both stores

Nice store to be sure ! However realy watch their prices !!! A number of items that I checked are at least a dollar more than WSS ? IE: fed primers are $4.69 per hun and no discound when 1000 are purchased, 10 cents more for the 210's than 210 match at WSS.

So nice to have a store with some stock on the shelves. I am doubtful that I will ever be in wss to buy anything again. I may head down there to see how dead it is for sh!ts and giggles though

i was there and was not as impressed as i thought i would be. the staff is not very good, i ask to see a scout scope and they said they didn't have one in. so i was like ok and looked around the scope section and found the scout scope i was looking for. one of the guys didn't even know what a scout scope was and was trying to get my to buy a regular one?! went to was and the staff was much better.
you need to go above the manager, contact the head office in the Nebraska
Brocolt, I'm pretty sure the manager left our conversation and walked over and fired the young woman involved. He did seem to take the situation seriously, and seemed like a firearm owner himself who believed in firearm safety. It still didn't change the fact that the staff who sell guns in big box stores are retail staff with no firearm training. I would venture a guess that few of them have PAL cards.

I immediately started to reach for the gun and told her to point it away from my child...she pulled the gun away just before my hand got there. I explained to her my concerns in a calm and rational manner afterwards, and my wife took our son and left the area. The staff member was not responsive to my concerns and did not feel she had done anything wrong, which is why I went to the manager.
She didn't have any concept of firearm safety because she had likely never fired a gun, and never been trained in gun safety. To her guns were no more dangerous than the shoes if she was working the shoe section that day. The store manager even told me that she wasn't normally at the firearm counter, but was working there that day to cover breaks or something.
I wasn't bringing that story up to criticize Cabela's, but they are a big box store the same as Walmart etc. When I buy ammo at Walmart, I don't expect the kid at the counter to know the difference between hollow point and FMJ....Cabelas is almost the same level of service.
There cannot be too many gun stores; competition, selection, pricing, all get better, the more options available.

i can confirm that it's the same in saskatoon. was there this weekend and the guy couldn't find a remington 700 that was on the shelf in front of him if his life depended on it. also be sure to shop around before getting a scope there. their prices are higher on many of them and their price matching doesn't include after the sale. even if it is the same day
I stopped in and wanted to look at the used guns and pick up the only new golden boy they had....10 mins after talking to the sales "kid" I decided I will wait for WSS or NP to bring it in... I walked out empty handed.
