Nice rifle!! I wouldn't bedded if its shoots like that. If its doesn't do that consistently then I would bed it.

Well, I went out early this morning to do some more testing. More wind, rain, and wet snow but thing are looking good anyways.

I bedded the rifle so I had to re-zero at 100. Things were going poorly to say the least, so I pulled the scope and tightened everything again. Once I was zeroed I moved to 200.

I was shooting groups of 3 in .3gr increments, but my two best were on opposite ends of the scale.:confused: I started with 24.0gr, and 24.6 looked like ass...

first is Berger 82gr BT Target over 24.3gr Varget

The purpose of today was to find a load for 90gr VLDs, but my best with 90's was almost double the 82's with 24.3gr. Oh well, I had too good a day to be upset about it.:D
 
.3gn increments is too much for load tuning with the 90's. It is ok at the start of development to get an idea of pressure, but to fine tune something you have you must test at .1gn increments. If you have the equipment to do so, you WILL see the difference.

The .3 was for the 82gr's. I was doing this to narrow it down and am loading by .1 now. I just bought a Winstead Peters digital scale with a claim of .1 accuracy. My 90gr loads were 23.9, 24.0, and 24.1. The weather today wasn't good for tuning, but I got some good info none the less.

I load my match ammo so the variance, as indicated by the scale is UNDER 0.1gr from case to case.

Each step is in 0.1gr increments with cases inside 0.1gr for each step. It matters.

0.3gr is like taking jumps of almost 0.8gr in a 308 case volume. WAY too coarse.

Glad that you found another bullet it likes to shoot. Looks like under 1/2" at 200yds.

Can you post a link to this Windfield Peters Digital Scale? I find nothing on Goggle, and I am in the market for a good digital scale. Thanks.

Winstead Peters ACC 2000, I bought it from John at Custom Reloading (sponsor) He's great to deal with, and very convenient for me being 6 blocks away.

Hi Jerry, the rifle is shooting awesome. I'm on target at 900 yards but every chance I have to go shooting I'm dealing with ~15 mph wind. :mad:
My last day out was in a snow storm, every 45 minutes or so the gong would show it's face. I'd post some pics but all you'll see is snow or fog or both.

What we go through for a little trigger time eh, :D
 
A shameless bump :D

My rifle is finished. The last two parts have been mounted and I'm very content.... for now ;)

Up until yesterday I was using the factory trigger, which had a feel that I'd compare to masturbation with a cheesgrater. :eek: Can I say that?? Anyways, thanks to Jerry (again) I got a nice new Rifle Basix ERV-3.

I haven't fired the gun yet, but I'll try to sneak out this afternoon. The difference in dry firing is night and day, going from ~ 3lbs, down to 8oz. I can hardly wait to use it. The rifle is sitting on it's new pod, also from Jerry.

Having my first build compete, is bitter sweet. The joy of building is shared with the joy of shooting.

I would like to thank Jerry at Mystic Precision and Terry at Black Art Rifle once again. A+++++++ guys, you've got my business till the end.

I've already posted this pic in another thread, but like the first line says, shameless.......

Thank you, and everyone else too.

You've already got the action, just find a barrel and do it. :D A new barrel installed and a Choate stock could be done <$1000. You might squeeze a trigger in there too ;). You'd have to give up the action work but you'll be plenty accurate.
