Shortening .22lr

What is the length requirements on a .22Lr? Like how long does the barrel have to be qnd how long does the enitre rifle have to be? I plan on doing a build of my stock ruger 10/22 and i was going to make it a bit shorter.

we should get a sticky going on this. Rimfire and manually operated action centerfire can have the barrels shortened to 457mm (17.99") and overall length must remain 660mm (26") or greater in shortest configuration (folding/collapsing stocks) You can install a shorter barrel if it was made at that length by a manufactuer (Dlask, NEA etc.) but it cannot be cut shorter afterwards. With a barrel swap you still must remain 660mm or greater in shortest configuration otherwise the rifle becomes restricted. In the original sporter stock, an 8" barrel will keep you just over 26"

We need a few new stickys in the rimfire section IE, BX-25 mags, OAL, Dlask VS CCI. just to name a few.

On a rimfire rifle the barrel can be 4" or less if you want but the over all length has to be 26" or more. Also said barrel has to be manufactured that short you can cut it down shorter then 18.5"

You keep saying the only way to have a shorter than 18" barrel installed on your rifle is to have one that was manufacturered at that length. That is simply not true. You can create any length of barrel you desire from an un-chambered non-threaded barrel blank and install it yourself.
