Laws For Calibre Sizes For Large Game In Nova Scotia Set For Changing?

I heard some guys spreading a rumor @ a sporting goods shop the other day that DNR in Nova Scotia was considering legalizing center-fire cartridges of .223 Rem, .222 Rem, .22-250, etc or greater for use in big game hunting. Has anyone heard any rumblings about this?

anything could be possible.considering last year they legallized a 410 with either slug or buckshot.

That is true. The DNR website states "A centre-fire rifle of any calibre" which means if you were so inclined you could actually hunt moose with a .17 Remington.

I wouldn't recommend it...

but it opens the door for .223, 22-250, etc etc for deer hunting if it passes here. I'm sure as heck not gonna be "that guy" who goes moose hunting with a .17, even though the right load and placement would drop one....

I didn't know that.Always thought it had to be .23 caliber or bigger.

I always thought that as well, until someone corrected me.

Since then, have taken my .223 deer hunting. Never shot one with it yet, but I have always seen a deer when I take it out, so I call it my good luck rifle.

I'd be glad to see this change as it would give me a legitimate reason to use my .223 target rifle outside of the range.

My only decent rifle is a .223 and I use it for coyote...

LOTS of people use .223 for deer in the other provinces, it sure would make it easier on me and others who otherwise have to borrow a rifle for deer season...

This would also be nice, my XCR-L is just begging for a DNR officer to have a heart attack when he sees it in the woods lol. Of course, I always carry that old registration certificate for just this reason, don't need my rifle locked in an RCMP office for 6 months while they decide if its non-restricted.

Moose...no.

I was reading about PO Ackley shooting goats with a 17 cal....apparently it they went down quick !! cant remember the chambering..17 Javelina ? 17-222 ? Ill have to re-read that book.
