I was at a store today looking at buying some ammunition for my GSG 1911. I asked the guy for some High velocity rounds and he said all they had were CCI Stingers which would "destroy my gsg 1911" since they're a hotter load. Being new to this stuff I took his advice and bought some blazers.

Is this true? Searching I've read some are using stingers, but noone mentioning that it could be dangerous to the gun or anything.
I hope the regular blazers will work with my GSG. It does say on the slide to use HV rounds. Guess I'll find out tomorrow at the range.

Thanks.

Mine works best with CCI Blazer and Mini-mag. Bulk Fed 525 and Winchester Commemorative Ed (nickel plated casing) also works. Too many FTF/FTE with Win 525 bulk. Wildcats also has some issues. I have not tried Remington though some users mentioned avoiding this ammo(dirty ammo they say).

mine has worked flawlessly with 3 different ammo so far (at least for the first 2~300 rounds)

Fed American Eagle HV copper plated HP
Winchester Xpert HV HP
Winchester 333 HV copper plated HP

I have couple boxes of CCI mini mag coming my way, and i'll be buying some CCI Blazer today.

I think stinger is a bit un-necessarily powerful for the GSG. i'm sure it won't break right away though.

after ~900 rounds, the only sign of usage is at the slide stop, and the barrel.

I think you were fed a pile. If the pistol cannot handle factory ammo it would have warnings all over it. Remember it is a frame designed for the meek and mild 45 acp Is it not?

I agree...Stingers burn more powder, but have a slightly longer case and lighter bullet than standard .22LR rounds.

CCI Blazer .22LR is high velocity; Stingers are hyper-velocity. I wouldn't be too concerned about shooting Stingers through your pistol, but I don't see the point, given that small game/varmint shooting is not an option. The cost per box is comparable to high quality target ammo, but without the accuracy. I would just stick with the Blazers if they work well in your gun and are readily available at a good price.

I have put over 3000 rounds through my GSG and initially tried almost every brand of 22 LR High Velocity ammo out there. At around 1000 rounds I settled on Winchester Super-X 40 Grain Power-Point and have only had 2-3 FTF/FTE since.

On the GSG's from the first batch(s) with the pot metal barrel bushings, the Stingers really make the slide fly. I personally know of someone locally [no, not me] who's GSG pot metal barrel bushing broke when shooting Stingers out of it. Luckily, he was able to retreive the bits, like the recoil spring etc, that flew down range & get it reassembled with a new steel barrel bushing.

My GSG likes the hi-vel .22lr ammo like Amercian Eagle. I see no need to shoot Stingers in it.

My gsg shoots flawlesly with fed bulk, copper washed seems to feed better, spent 10minutes polishing the feed ramp, not one prob since......enjoy..
Import

CCI Standard Velocity 40 grain @ 1070 FPS
CCI Blazer 40 grain @ 1200 FPS
CCI Stinger 32 grain @ 1640 FPS

I think these figures are for rifles but may apply to handguns to some extent.
