The ORA conducted Service Conditions Rifle Match #1 this past weekend at Connaught Ranges.
As a first time participant it was really great to finally see what the match was really like after reading, researching and trying to ask intelligent questions of the match director for 8-10 months.
It really was a fun event. Getting to shoot beside a military rifle team was a pleasure and a learning experience. It was also very clear that experienced shooters using issue kit kick ass. As a civilian it also good to get to chat with members of our forces to get a bit of a window into that world. And hey, how often am I going to get to bunk with a QM?
There was a real sense of camaraderie between all participants. Even thought we were each technically competing against each other, everybody was willing to pitch in to help each other out and overcome any challenges that were presented.
All in all a great weekend. I personally had a ton of fun and learned a great deal. Big thanks as always to the MD for running a smooth match, the butt officers for keeping us all straight on that end of the range, the ORA for facilitating the event and frankly, thank-you to DND for allowing myself and other civilians to make use of their great facilities and participate in this type of event
