What scope do you guys think I should run?

So to follow up my last post in here of what to start with I ended up with a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .223.

Now I am looking for what scope I should run, here is what it is used for;

1)Target shooting up to 300 yards for now, likely only 300 yards for a while as thats all I get at my range.

2)Maybe gophers if I can ever make it out to a place that has em when I'm not working.

My requirements for the scope;

1)Turrets so I can adjust elevation and windage without removing caps.

2)40ish mm objective and 30mm tube (can change but I am setup for this already so not a deal breaker)

3)$300-$400 price range (to keep the entry level theme)

If your budget is that low somthing like a millet trs-1 might do for you , target turrets, 30mm tube pretty fine x-hairs.

I honestly don't think you will find a quality precission scope in that price range so I hope your nOt expecting to much :)
 
What price range should I be looking in Ult.Monkey to find some quality optics?


I'm totally green to "precision shooting", at least with a scope anyway!

Big millet fan here. I agree. There great scopes for the price. Just don't expect to be reading a newspaper through it at a 1000yards lol
 
Bushnell 3200 5-15x40 Tactical is under $400. Has resetable tactical knobs, adjustable objective and mildots. I think its a good scope for the money.
 
Okay, streching the budget a little here what about a Bushnell 6500 4.5-30x50 Fine Multi-x, on sale for $820??

Anything else in that price group a better option?

Bushnell usually offers a good scope for the money but that scope is an absolute piece of SHIAT... I wouldn't pay 300 for one of those 4.5-30 if I had to keep it( seriously).

There is a great deal on a used Bushnell 4200 6-24x50 tactical on the EE for $500. If you can pay that much you are getting a great scope for the money. I payed closer to $700 for mine and I really enjoy that scope. The cheaper 5-15x40 is great too, only 1" tube but same knobs and glass, repeatability and eye relief are great in both. I have one of each and would never part with them. 6500 is overpriced by a long shot.

I have the Bushnell 6-24x50 Tactical and its an alright scope. I'll tell you a couple of things I don't like about it. The 30mm tube didn't translate into any added elevation adjustment range. I can live with that. Some situations it might disappoint unless you use a canted scope base. Worst part about the scope is that it has the poorest tolerance for eye relief and positioning I've ever experienced. The scope is constanting straining to not "wink out". Unless your eye is perfectly positioned, it winks out on you. That I find annoying and straining.

The Bushnell 5-15x40 is not like that at all. Much more forgiving for eye positioning.

personally i find the Bushnell x-hairs rediculously thick precission in the target sense, might be fine for the "tactical" style of precission but if you want to punch nice little holes its to thick, i down graded mine to being used on a .22 personally, i think the glass should cost more then the rifle.

if your willing to strtch your budget ill put in a vote for the sightron line, they seem to have alot of great words said about them for the price, and the one iv looked threw seemed pretty clear to my eyes.
