First off I really like the new NEAs.

No digs here.....

When I first got the rifle in the mail from SFRC (thanks a bunch BTW) I noticed that the trigger pull was terrible and gritty as rubbing sand and gravel together. Other than that it was a thing of beauty:D

I contacted NEA about the trigger and they tossed me a link on how to do a trigger job, now she's pretty sweet!

Fast forward 2.5 months...... I finally get a chance to shoot the darn thing..... Moving, living away from the wife & kids since Sept, life been pretty busy with no time to shoot.....

I have broken in the trigger pretty well by this point dry firing it and stoning this or that, as well as lapping the mating surfaces with lapping compound. I bet there are over 500 pulls on the trigger by this point.

1st shot bang, second shot, bang thrid shot bang. clear chamber and adjust spark that came with the rifle so its at POA at 25y. 4th shot bang (right on target), but it doesn't cycle the action.... Cycle the action manually, eject spent case, check to ensure there is no obstruction load rnd 5 and 'click'..... (winchester White box ammo..... Cause someone is going to ask)

I notice that the hammer pin is sticking out one side and not in the hole in the other.

Break the rifle down, use the edge of the bench to push the pin back in while I'm holding the hammer so that the holes line up. No woirries, put er back together and insert mag, drop bolt and bang....... action doesn't cycle. This is when I notice that the gas block isn't where it used to be....... It is slightly forward. I have tools, just not the right ones.......

It's not a total loss, I have other guns with me, put the NEA away and plink away with some other toys till all the ammo is gone. pack up, go home.

So now I have the HG off the rifle, the gas block slides from the shoulder in the barrel to the Flash hider. I reset possition, tighten screws. Then I think about loc-tighting the SOB so it doesn't get loose again......

All I have is Blue on the bench, Should I get red? or Stake the b*tch?

Do I stake the Hammer pin as well...... as the darn thing seems to back out under recoil, I had to push it back in when I got home and that was after only 1 rnd......

Thanks!

I'm certainly not an expert but I have a few suggestions.

The gas block moving can certainly explain the cycling issues. Fixing this is simple.

As for the trigger pin, I suspect that the legs for hammer spring are under the trigger pin instead of resting on it. It's easy to get the hammer out but a bit tricky to get it back in. I suggest you use a punch to hold the hammer in position and push (displace) that punch out with the hammer pin.

I am one of the lucky ones. I've got serial number 44 and have not had a single issue. I do hope they get these relatively simple quality issues fixed because the rifle is great otherwise.

Ensure that the hammer spring legs are 'beside' the trigger spring legs and not on top of. The hammer spring keeps the trigger spring locked in. Something to check anytime you reassemble your fire control parts.

Cycling. You nailed it, the set screws came loose. Tighten up and apply a SMALL amount of red loctite to the threads. Index to 12 o'clock and have at 'er.

are these not things you should be checking b4 they go out?

Yes, but as the user mentioned, he removed his trigger group. We were not there to reinstall and inspect it for him.

Loctite, it's not just for xcr's anymore.

You may be surprised to hear that almost every manufacturer uses Loctite in several key areas for AR builds; Gas blocks with set screws being one. You may also be surprised to hear that Loctite is the #1 selling method the world over in all industries for anyone not wanting a threaded insert to move. It is not a stopgap measure, it is a sound manufacturing and assembly asset.

I use loctite at work all the time. I understand that many mechanical devices benefit from it. It wasn't a dig at your product, but moreso at the endless supply of idiots ranting about the POS xcr needing loctite and how the AR is the best rifle evar.

Flame suit on.

Nea is correct, I did remove the trigger. It was assembled correctly, so I staked it. Marred the finish a bit but I can live with that.

I ran out, got some red, put it all back together and then I hit the range. I put 300 through the beast and it took all comers. Winchester, Pmc, ae, norc red and yellow plus some hand loads......

Funnily enough it shot my hand loads the best......

Cheers!

WTF I have never seen so many ''issue threads'' on a AR-15 of rifle ever lol.. You guys who buy these things are braver men than me .. I just hope not to many of these lemons were sold overseas giving Canadian firearms manufacturing a bad reputation ..

I was just thinking the same thing. Not trying to bash peoples guns or NEA but so far i have not seen or heard anything good about them. Pretty sad when the evil chineese norinco AR's have less/ next to no issues. And what is with the sandbox factory triggers?

Good customer service is great....

Making a product you dont need it = even better.

I hope the rifles that ended up as duty guns were sorted out.

really? I see plenty of people say they have great NEAs, but they usually get shouted down pretty quick, or called shills (because there would NEVER be anti NEA shills right?)...

I did a review on mine, http://canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=748166 , didnt take long to be accused of being a shill simply for enjoying my functional rifle. and norincos have plenty of issues, they just are not held to the same standard. I have an unstaked norq, with a loose fire selector, that has a bolt hold open that only holds open half the time. I still consider it a good gun however, because it was ONLY 700 bucks. I paid 300 more for my NEA, and its way better.

read the above folks.....user tinkering....not manufacturer defect

IMO $300 more is still in the same catagory. I bought my norc to get into the AR seen. 1 month and 3000 rounds later she is still flawless. If / when i do upgrade i will probably go with LMT

Was the OP tinkering? Not sure, but seems like he was cleaning up a poor trigger from the factory. If it would have arrived in better working order he likely would not have done anything to it in the first place by the sound of it. I would have sent it back for another one, or a refund. Just sayin'........
