Looking for load info on 300 SAUM necked to 257. The intention of this project is to shoot 155-165 gr bullets at long range. Any input would be helpful.

Where are you finding 155-165 .257 cal match bullets?
I have an article on the 25 Pronghorn(25WSM) with load data if you like. I know its more case capacity but its a good article. PM if you would like me to scan it and send.

Son of a #####! Expect a pm in the near future. I got a pard who wants more from his Abolt 25-06 than his 115 BTips can give him 
I'd say a 160 grainer in a quarter bore will hold its own just fine at long distance. I'm friggin interested now too, my quarter bore has an inferiority complex every now and then, and I'd sure be interested in how a longer bullet would do at long range in this caliber.

Redding lists dies for both cartridges but load data for them is tough to find. Barrels in gain twist (15X7) are ordered. Dummy rounds for both are made and ready to send for reamers. Would like to see load data with heavy bullets in SAUM case and if that doesn't happen then WSM will be used.

I doubt his 10 twist Abolt will shoot anything that heavy unless he's rebarreled. the heaviest Ive been able to buy for my incoming 25-06 ackley has been 125gr. Matrix (FB and RBT). Hoping to test them soon.
Cool to hear about chinchaga making those bullets.
I tought the .257 was more of a "predator hunter" cause of the bullet choice. but if you make your own that's differant.
what is advantage of the .257" have over the .264"?

Sorry Pathfinder, I wasnt suggesting I wanted to try 155-165s in a 10 twist 25-06. I was hoping he could make 123-130 grain VLD type pills. I pm'ed him about them. Sorry for the confusion.

No advantage, perhaps some disadvantage. The disadvantage being lack of load data but I'm sure we can safely find the limits. Another excuse to build a new rifle. This isn't rocket science its recreation. You like 6.5, and so do I. You don't need a reason. Rifle will be used for 1000 yd. bench rest and one mile fun shoots.

What is the advantage of the 0.243" over the 0.257", and it over the 0.264", and it over the 0.277", and it over the 0.284", and .........?
Each has its own small advantages and disadvantages in specific situations with specific bullet weights, but it usually comes down to bullet selection. There is quite a bit of choice with regard to available cartridges and their capacities, and you can wildcat if you're not satisfied. These days powder selection is not an issue, but it used to be.
exactly what I think! it's all about bullet selection. to choose the caliber for 1000y shooting I would choose the best bullet availlable and see if I can find a decent caliber to reach a velocity of over 3000fps ( to make sure the bullet gets under sos)
If I had to choose from your list I will try a 180g Burger hybrid in .284" out or a 284 Win (A.I.) or a 7mm WSM.
BTW I'm not trying to say .257 don't worth it, sound like an interesting project and I'd like to know more.especialy about the bullet making!!
