looking for shot timer

anyone have one of these - MKIV XP Championship Timer and Chronograph ... thoughts, chrony any good ? how large is the actual main brain? is this something you would carry with you during practice or is it too large for that?

I've used all but the full auto rate of fire timer, sadly this winter I had the chance to even use that when I was shooting a full auto C8 but I forgot to bring my timer...lol
I have all the chrono parts, sky screens etc, I have drills that use comstock go like the Double Draw Master drill, I use the par time for dry fire as well as in te range, the ballistic calc is useful on long shot (like this past Waterloo match....lol) and the lead calc is useful for training for the Action Pistol/Bianchi Cup Mover event.
And as far as TGO or JM, when you win as many titles as they have, I think they have some idea of what good training gear is.

You must be in sales or something. :D

In my books, regular timer mode and par timer mode cover 99% of all needs. The rest isn't really worth an extra $100. One thing I have to give to your pact timer is that it has largest display for the actual time reading.

As for TGO and JM, they are sponsored professionals. They get their stuff for free anyways. :)

Someone, please, please, please tell RUReady and CED guys to add an interface, so their timers could wirelessly talk to Android/iPhone devices...

It is 2012... memorizing multiple strings, splits and a lot more of other fancy stuff is much easier and handier to do on a multipurpose computer...

Can't the RO talk wirelessly to the Scorekeeper?

Picture this -
(using actual vocal interaction)
RO: If you are finished.......range is clear.
RO: Time, 14.32
Scorekeeper: 14.32

..and remember, the RO didn't need to hit a 'send' button or mess with the timer and the Scorekeeper was able to enter the time as called out, without any outside electrical interference or worry of Android / Iphone / BB malfunction.

Sometimes the easiest way is right there.

You said yourself that the stages are run by 2 people - the RO & the Scorekeeper. Why is all the extra software required?

extra $100? Pact lists at $189, CED at $140 and RUReady at $129. An extra $60 at most for a whole lot more features...

So we should ignore all the equipment top shooters use because they might have got it for free? Good to know!

As a B shooter you probably haven't been exposed to drills that use more advanced timer features :D

Here is a video of me practicing, check near the end for a good look at the size, but no, its not too large to use during practice.

The chrono is fine, though you may have to play with lighting like any other chrono.

Both CED and ruready are $120 (won't bother with RF versions). So, $70 extra + taxes, postal, etc (because no local distributors) will make it to $100...

It's not like they are winning stages by carrying the best timer in the world...
Besides, owning two of those didn't help you much to win matches in Open division around here. :D

Reminds me of one of those brick cell phones.

How is it with any movement drills?
Looks like you would have a bruise on your leg by the end of a training session. LOL

Brant is local enough, and they'll be at some of the bigger matches...

Check the scores again, I've won several, And a couple Classic and I seem to recall beating you at a match in Production... :p
How many President Medals do you have? Ive got at least a couple in boxes around here...

In real life it is more like this:

RO: range is clear
RO: Time, 14.32
Scorekeeper: what?
RO: Time, 14.32
Scorekeeper: 16:52
RO: NO! 14.32
Scorekeeper: ahh, 14.32, then he is typing 24.32...

And that is if we're lucky. How many reshoots we all have to do because someone forgot to save the time?

There is also rule 8.6.3 many score keepers are forgetting about when shouting time they have read from the time out loud...

..and remember, the RO didn't need to hit a 'send' button or mess with the timer

No he hasn't. Neither in the scenario I am suggesting. Because timer sends the time to scoring device automatically. Preventing the human errors.

and the Scorekeeper was able to enter the time as called out, without any outside electrical interference or worry of Android / Iphone / BB malfunction.

You are making assumptions that electronic devices are less reliable then humans who spend several long days at the range... I'd argue that.

Sometimes the easiest way is right there.

Naturally it is not required, but it can make life of ROs a little easier and make the whole process less error prone.

It is like at the old times scores were done with a pen and paper and for some matches competitors had to wait several months before scores are posted. Now we are using software to calculate scores and often scores are available nearly after last competitor finished the match...

I owned the CED7000Pro. It is packed with features you never use. I sold it and bought an RU Ready timer, which I use in conjunction with Practiscore.

While I'm not a fan of the Speed timer it does have two nice qualities. The beep is loud, clear and short compared to most others. It's also the only timer I've seen reliably catch splits as low as .06. I just wish it had a finer adjustment for par times and an easier review function.

Maybe when you RO or Scorekeep...not when I do.
