Hey there,

Does anyone have any experience with the Colt Combat Elite? I am about to order myself a 1911 and it's come down between a Colt Combat Elite or Kimber. I am really leaning on the Colt, but would like to know more about it's out of the box performance compared to a Kimber.

Thanks.

You are far more likely to get a Colt that runs properly out of the box than a Kimber. The Series 80 firing pin block is also less likely to have issues than the Kimber grip safety-actuated block.

If those are the two firearms your looking at, my opinion is to buy the colt because of the long term value. Colts are essential to a collection IMO. Kimber makes a nice product but I don't think I would ever keep one in my safe for more than a year or two.

The Colt you can leave your kids Remember if its not a Colt it's a copy.

There is an overwhelming amount of experts in the field, and users who have spoken out about Kimber.

True and if you research it further there are as many articles on the short comings of the Colts as well. Including the failure of the slides on the Delta Elites.

It's not my intention to turn this into a pissing match...just pointing out that no 1911 design is perfect regardless of the manufacturer and if you really want to look it is very easy to unearth complaints about them all.. just like with any other firearm really...

To me it's a matter of preference: all of them have some traits or characteristics that are favourable to some and *less* favourable to others depending on personal tastes (discussing the intended application in Canada is somewhat pointless as it's limited to range use only).

It's pretty much a Ford vs Chevy argument and we always know how that ends... with the Ford winning each and every time :p

Thanks, guys. I am gonna go and pick me up a Colt and giver a try. My buddy is looking to get a Kimber so we can see which holds up better.

I do not have a Kimber, so i can not speak to its performance. i do have a few colts, all of them older 1940's 50's and 60's all are 100% reliable after being around awhile. i also read that colt is now producing again their gold cup 1911 series 70's for around 1000 american. I just picked up a remington R1 which is a nice pistol as well you may want to look at.

I think you mean their new Blued gold cup MKIV Series 80 repoductions?

They will be a little more expensive then that up here..
