Find an M1A receiver and we can put it together for you! I just did! Great fun! Cheaper parts cost by using another Norc M14 along with an $ 800 M1A Springfield receiver and you are at $ 1200 (half the price of a new M1A) and then you can upgrade to some USGI or USGI spec'ed parts as time and money allow.
Plink just came over to my house last weekend, we screwed a new Criterion barrel on his Norc receiver. He noticed that my M1A uses a Norc trigger group, Norc op rod, M1A gas system, M1A flash suppressor (likely Taiwan made under contract to Geneseo, Illinois Springfield), USGI SA barrel, Italian PB M1 Garand sights.
Okay back to building your own dream M1A... or LRB (if that floats your boat)
For example; buy a USGI spec/dimension'ed bolt made by LRB from
www.armtac.com (board sponsor/dealer) for $ 315 and use your Norc barrel and you will have a nice tight chamber without the cost of re-barreling.
Okay, still wanna go and spend $ 2200ish plus taxes and S&H? Epps has a couple right now. (oh poop, I looked last night and today, BOTH M1A's are sold $ 1995.00)
Now you have to do some searching with the other vendors on this board. That's your next option.
Your thoughts? Does this help?
Now on second thought... how about buying a LRB receiver for $ 1280 from
www.armtac.com then screwing all you Norc parts (sell or keep the Norc receiver) on the LRB for the time being until your budget allows you to buy and upgrade and then install other parts.
Either way, I am here for all of your project dreams! Well, M14 builds anyways!
Cheers,
Barney
