Well, I just got done taking my new ruger american rifle apart to adjust my trigger, down to 3 1/2 lbs, for my preference....then I inspected, cleaned, lubed, and put her back together. Quite pleased with the overall fit, finish, and quality with this new "entry level"...and to be honest, it makes my Tikka T3 lite sort of a waste of money, when I compare them side by side. The features on the Ruger are quite impressive, and are nothing short of a bargain, at $250-$300 less money than my tikka. I can't wait to put on a scope, and take it to the range, to see if these new rugers really are shooting MOA with factory ammunition, like ruger, and several other magazine reviewers are saying that these new rugers are capable of shooting.

I nearly bought a weatherby vanguard, but the deal fell through at the last minute, and after reading so many positive reviews, and opinions, about the all new ruger "american", I happened to notice ellwood epps have them in stock (only place I know of with them), so I called them up, to double check they had one in .270 (caliber I desired), and I decided to take a road trip (2+ hours), and get one, while they last..... Once arriving at epps, I compared a few other rifles to the "american", and quickly chose the ruger over everything I shouldered. I was considering a new savage 111 trophy xp package (with weaver scope), but in my opinion, the ruger was the better rifle, so ended up buying the ruger american in .270win.......the only advantage that I gave the savage over the ruger, was that the savage had a nice looking jeweled bolt....although the savage came with a scope, it was obviously cheap, and I would'nt of been satisfied using it.

Some of the nice features about the ruger american, that I liked are, a adjustable "accutrigger type" trigger, stainless steel blocks in the stock that beds the rifle, high quality crowned barrel, very thick & beefy one piece bolt similar to a Sako, tang safety, 70 degree bolt throw, nice soft recoil pad, 4 round rotary magazine (plastic, but solid), and a ergonomic lightweight stock(reason for the soft recoil pad I suspect), that makes the ruger weigh 6 1/4 lbs ( about same as a tikka).... This gun will be great to carry, since its compact 22 inch barrel, and lightweight stock will be a breeze to walk around all day hunting, slung over the shoulder..... Only 2 things that I dont like about this rifle (being picky), is that the bolt is'nt jeweled(still smooth, and I will jewel it myself just to finish it off), and I think the safety is only a 2-position safety(bolt does'nt lock when safety is on), unless I just have to read the manual, to see if the bolt will lock shut, by some little trick....but no big deal if its just a 2-position safety.

Best part about the gun is its price.......I paid just shy of $500 taxes included, out the door... IMHO, this new ruger american is the best bang for your buck, compared to any rifle under $650......so long as it shoots good, which I will find out shortly.

Will do. I'm looking foward to seeing if its as accurate as Ive heard they are. The bolt is loose fitting, and smoothly cycles back and fourth, but engages very snug and seems real tight when you load a round. The plastic 4-round rotary magazine is one of the best mags I have scene, and considering its plastic, its very solid. The mag fits snug, and precise, with no rattle. It goes in and out really nice...much better than a ruger 10/22.

I don't need another rifle anyway, and the Ruger American isn't it. But it looks like a very good gun at a good price. If they offer it in .303Br and call it the Ruger Canadian, I'll have to taste some of that KoolAid.
