Just heard on CJOB Radio about the 65 yr old man that was dragged out of camp by a black bear, lucky for him his 63 yr old buddy was armed and dangerous and shot the bear stone cold dead! This is a good story for all you "brave men" out there that fear no bear in the woods and go so bravely and so proudly unarmed! :eek:
bear spray & a bell, ya right! had there been only that in that camp, there would be one less pensioner, I'm quite sure! You need firestick authority and nothing less!

Wpg man recovering after bear attack in NW Ontario

A 65-year-old Winnipeg man is recovering after a black bear dragged him out of his cabin near Sioux Lookout in Northwestern Ontario on Saturday night. The bear was shot by another man who heard and then saw the attack. Ontario Provincial Police say the man suffered a bite and several scratches. He was treated and released from hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
 
Unarmed people in the woods = Potential Bear food.

I hope the old boy recovers well and buys his buddy a steak dinner.
 
Poor bear. It is humans' fault for invading the bears home. It was either (a) provoked or (b) doing what comes naturally.

Wifey and I went camping last summer with a bunch of friends and it turned out (to our surprise) one was an anti and ranted on and on about anti gun bs when we mention that we brought my 30/30 win along in case.

The rest of the group where gratefully I did as we had bears lurking all around the camp at night.

I told that anti that in the case of a bear attack I would respect his mental condition and let the bear get a running start with his leg in its mouth...for some reason he was the only one not laughing in the camp when I said this. :D

I think they used the words "cabin" and "structure" just to be ahh...... ahhh....... polite or something along those lines ;) I don't think they wanted to let on by saying he was caught/dragged with his pants down! :redface:

Regardless. If that had happened to me, I'd be slipping in sh*t whether I was in the latrine or not!:eek:

Seriously though I am glad he survived the attack. Black bears are not the clowns some people take them to be.

Black bears are the most unpredictable of bear species and
are the most known to actively stalk and attack humans. Cute they ain't.
That guy was lucky for sure.:eek:

I was actively stalking a black bear last night....bastard caught a whif of me and was out of there so fast he left his ass behind... :p (he was heading straight for a power line cut but didn't show...so I went after him in the trees)

So it's not a one way street as far as stalking goes... :D

I read all three of those books.
These reads got me thinking about all my encounters
with these furs in the bush.
Remarkable the close calls, brushes and encounters I have
forgotten during my time on this planet.
For those of you that spend much time out in the bush,
think back to the bear calls you have had.
I'd be willing to bet you don't have enough fingers to count
them on.
