Lubrication for SKS

I grease the bolt carier slides and under the bolt, patch of oil down the barrel and shoot oil into the gaz block and wipe the extra...some ppl might have different POV

I use the blood from kittens and puppies mixed with the right amount of childrens tears

Buuuuuut when my stock of those things are running low i wipe the whole thing down with g96 and if im not shooting it for awhile i use it in the barrel too and just clean it before i shoot.Dont over complicate a sks ive never like the idea of grease on guns but thats just my opinion which falls somewhere between a wheel barrow and a pile of ####

Synthetic oil, I found grease became really dirty from surplus ammo. Oil is a lot easier to clean off.

Plus the sks were issued with oil cans, so probably can go wrong with it.

i put bore butter over everything and i spray oil over top, seeing as it's corrosive ammo you're most likely going to be shooting out of the gun might as well protect it.

I reccomend gravel and sand. Keeps mine running like clockwork.

In all seriousness just use whatever. They are not picky rifles. The key is to prevent it from rusting and virtually whatever you use will accomplish that goal.

Just use any generic gun oil and keep the firing pin dry. These rifles aren't fussy at all. its how you clean it that prevents rust, less so than how much oil you use after your done cleaning it.

Use dry lube on the firing pin if you have a free floating type firing pin. You still want to protect it from rust and friction. If you have a Murray's firing pin with spring, use whatever the heck you want.

Yeah -I have used the cleaners I use for my black powder guns seeing as the corrosive ammo I use may be similar to corrosive effects of black powder but was'nt real sure. -never thought of using the bore butter though!-certainly would smell different than the cosmoline.

Alot of guys say to run the gas system dry-like the M14-but some oil piston for storage then dry off before firing. Some I have talked to use moly base and claim it helps preserve lube after wiping off anyone have experience with that?

No oil in the FP. You do not want to put anything in there that will attract powder, dirt, debris and make it stick there. Even with a murray's FP. I just put one in my SKS and it still got gunked up. First time shooting with it yesterday and I thought I had f*cked it up but it turned out to be popped primer debris got in the FP chamber. It actually caused the FP to stick forward enough to cause light strikes on the primers. No slamfire though. Found little bits of metal stuck in there when I took it home and disassembled it. Good thing Murray sends you a couple extra springs with every FP cuz the first one was bent after that.
Sensible amount of Hoppe's #9 or Rem Oil everywhere else. IE:all moving parts and wipe with a light coating. Complete clean after shooting corrosive ammo. I find the rem oil is handy when cleaning. Spray it on and wipe it off. Brake cleaner works great on the bolt assembly, but mine is shiny, might not be good on the painted ones.
Common sense applies here, if you shoot alot at once or often, oil your gun its good for it cuz its metal. Just thoroughly clean the crud off it right after or it will rust. Works for me.

Lubrication? On a SKS? WTF? You can drop the thing in a swamp for six months, push a branch down the barrel, load up the magazine and the thing will still fire and cycle properly...
