In the hopes of finally getting a moose draw this year,I'm looking for a new rifle.
I do have a Browning A-bolt in .270WSM but it might be under powered??
AND I need an excuse to get a new toy.

A few things I want are;

1- left handed bolt or lever action

2-not an odd ball caliber,I enjoy reloading but I don't want to rely on having the time to do it.

3-a mag,to ease in loading/unloading

4-not stainless, having a polished metal tube while trying to be stealthy seems silly to me

lets hear some ideas.

Thanks

While your .270 WSM loaded with controlled expansion bullets will be more than adequate for moose the logical next step up would be a .338 Win Mag.

Don't spoil it for him, he said he's looking for an excuse to get a new gun. :slap:

Indeed. How is OP supposed to show his wife this thread now, with VLT79's post screwing up the illusion?

OP, 308 with 165gr or 180gr bullets is more than adequate for moose, so your 270WSM is lots. If you want more power, then the .338 Win Mag is a great cartridge that is a solid step up from any of the 300 class magnums. Ammo is available in most places (not just gun shops) and it will flatten anything on the NA continent with authority.

Oh please...the OP is an adult! He/she doesn't need excuses or permission from the spouse to purchase anything. If the spouse doesn't understand maybe if time to to find one that does, instead of looking for another gun!

This is what I have on order...gun wise...not spouse! LMAO!

Ruger Alaskan 375 Ruger would be my choice for more power, only because I haven't shot a moose with a 375 yet. All the moose I shot with my 338 Win. Mag. have all been "Bang Flops" as they say.

I like the 338, a good friend has a Tikka in left hand they are on special right now for $600, or how about a BLR in 325wsm.

IMHO you may as well skip the .375's and step up to a .416 of whatever variety if you already have a .338 Win Mag.

Thanks for all the input.

A tikka in 338 is looking promising.

I know my .270WSM will do the trick,so would my old .270. I agree about shot placement,it's all about where you put the pointy part.
But I've got the itch to buy something new and I'm trying to convince myself to get something "practical" as opposed to the 1911's I've been eyeballing.
