maybe you should buy one and try it first...shotguns that is...
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... there will be some kids that see it and say... "Daaadddd, I want it!"
If they drop it from next years line-up, you will know that the retail public agree with you... as far as the brake goes... that is way over the top, but I can't bash brakes in general, because I have installed them on many rimfires
... I like the look, balance, and crown protection (I also want to say FEEL, but I'll get flamed like mad! )... see below ;

Remember when Homer Simpson designed his dream car at his brothers auto plant ? Somewhere out there, a Mossberg has a retarded half/ brother who somehow got into the design department. Seriously, does a 17HMR need a muzzle brake that big ?
Well, as my mother used to say; "He fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down" That thing is simply ridiculous. I can imagine a scenario where someone buys one thinking it's kick-a**, only to show-up at a range and get some pretty crooked stares. Can't protect people from themselves I guess.
On an unrelated note, how do Mossberg HMRs shoot? Here lots about Savage, some about Marlins, nothing about Mossbergs.

Then again... neither does a .300 Win Mag, .338 Lapua, .375 H&H, .416 Rigby etc... etc... but their owners saw fit to put them on, and had their own reasons for it... I have brakes on LR, M2, HMR, .223, .243, .270, .308 and .30/06... I like brakes... and because I like them for my own reasons, MY HMR's DO need them.
But, "to each their own." I'm thinking that you probably won't run out a pop a 50 BMG brake on your Cooper Hummer!

lol, what makes you think i never owned or tried them?, compared to any other shotgun i have owned (remington, ithica, winchester, boito and even the old double side by each stevens coach gun)they are a dog, jamming peice of #### that will let you down half the time especially when the ducks or geese fly over. Happened with one i got on trade one time, thought it was just that gun so i traded it off, and borrowed buddys brand new 3"pump, new from box, jammed all day, feeding issues a real peice of work. I wouldnt mention the shotgun is crap unless i had first hand experiance with the thing.
Ive had first hand experience with more than a couple Mossberg/Maverick shotguns and found the exact opposite. Every one Ive ever owned, friends and family have owned and people Ive met found them to be dead nuts reliable with zero modifications or work needed. Thats what made me think you "heard something from someone somewhere". The only bad ones I can think of are the old single action bar Mavericks that were horrible and live up to your findings. Did you try other brands of shells in the second one? None of mine were ever ammo picky except Win magnum pheasant loads occasionally were hard to eject in a Maverick 88. Other than that they were 12 ga. guzzling shotshell garburators. Now their rifles I wouldnt even consider owning and especially firing. POS death traps that somehow sell.

The mossberg shotguns i am talking about are the old lakefeild mossberg 12 ga 3" pumps, not sure of modle number cant remember, almost 20 years ago, , 400G? manufactured for mossberg by lakefeild, After the experiance with those guns i steered clear of any shotgun with either of those names. The new ones are probably better, i cant speak to that, the bad taste in my mouth from the first couple has prevented me from trying any newer modles. my apologies for besmurching your shotgun, lol.However this conversation isnt taking any of the ugly off the original posters rifle and the goofy handle and HUGE ridiculous looking muzzle brake built for a cannon on the end of it. I bought a 400g in 1973 at thr ripe old age of 17 , the very first firearm I bought with my own hard earn money.
I still have it , use it and won't part with it.
It came with a 30" full choke barrel and I also have a 24" turkey barrel and a 18.5" slugger for it too.

One of our club members was shooting his tactical style semi auto 22lr, when there was a louder than normal bang. The magazine blew out of the gun, the casing was ruptured, and the bullet was stuck in the bore. The same person was shooting skeet with us a week later, with his Mossberg Silver Reserve, and both barrels fired with one squeeze of the trigger. It sounded like one very loud shot, and he was rocked back on his heels. I didn't care much for Mossberg before those incidents, but they were enough to convince me, that I would never own one.
