Any plans for a red rifle in 5.45x39mm?

I think the 7.62x39 is the best cartridge out there and cheap to boot. I just don't think the 5.45 offers much more except for trajectory and more cheap ammo.

Then don't buy one.

Maybe a CSA could be done up in 5.45? As long as it has metal mags not those cheesy plastic ones.

Wasn't planning on buying one. My point was I am not seeing what the 5.45 rage is about other than just plain old cool factor. I know that CZ/CSA has really catered to the Canadian market already, which is surprizing enough in itself so a CSA in that caliber could possibly happen. Just not sure if it would offer anything over the 5.56 except the possibility of cheaper ammo. The only issue with the very cheap 5.45 is the fact that most of it is corrosive. It would be the same issue as we deal with now with the 7.62x39 and non-chrome barrels, etc.

I agree that it is not too big of an issue, it is just that we will be subjected to a million more "how do you clean after shooting corrosive ammo" threads ...

Yeah, there must be a million different recipes for cleaning after firing "corrosive" ammo. Hows about this....just throw some hot water in it and then....CLEAN IT!

But I digress, what's wrong with a caliber that provides no ballistic advantages but is cheaper to shoot?

Yeah but it's just not the same, I want something built by a commie, or even a reformed commie.

I would have to agree with you on that one. If I wanted a gun in that caliber, it would have to be a commie gun. These AR's in 5.45 just don't have the appeal.

I'd love to see something non-restricted (for example, an 858, like others have suggested) chambered in 5.45X39 hit the market. Actually having a rifle that fires cheap surplus AND can be used year round without being limited to the range here in NB would be a big plus to me.

The allure of the 5.45 round is hard to explain. I think it would loads of fun to shoot. Even if the cost was similar to 7.62 it would still be cheaper than 5.56. The rifle would definitely have to be of commie lineage.

I agree the red rifle factor would be important to me as well. I want some cool communist stuff. All rough edges and reliability.

Like I said it is just a matter of making it financially smart for a company to import a shipping container full of the stuff.

If they don't think they can sell it they wont.

At this point I don't think there has been a viable option suggested, other then special, seemingly limited runs, of other guns.

Doesn't seem to likely.

this is why we need to keep up the fight aided by manufacturers and dealers for the reclassification of semi automatic fires arms! When that fight is won they will be able to import these sporting arms (e.g. Ak 74 derivatives) and make some money!

I’d rather see a 20" barrel CZ 858 chambered for .308 or 7.62x54R then one chambered for 5.45x39. Just think about it. We could build our own Dragunov look alike if we had something like that. That would require a whole newly manufactured gun so that would be expensive like $2000 or even more. We could build Dragunov look alike rifles with the current CZ 858 or SKS rifles we have now but they won't be anywhere near as accurate as if we had something in .308.

Actually, that idea would appeal to many on here - perhaps moreso than a 5.45 gun. If it is non-restricted, it would be nice to have it in a caliber that you could hunt with.

You could always tactify an SVT 40...they're also closer to the Dragunov in aesthetics when compared to the CZ IMO, and they fire the 762x54
