My first Enfield

Here's a quick vid on my first Enfield.

Help me out if you know the markings. I'm looking forward to finding some wood for it however I will take it to the range with my dad's pig sticker.

Your rifle is a Number 4 Mark 1/2 Lee-Enfield that was converted to a Sporter in England. The "Surrey" is a Model name made up by the firm that converted it. There is also a "Sussex" Model.

The (F) FTR means the rifle was converted from a Number 4 Mark 1 and updated to the Mark 2 version by adding some pieces to the trigger mechanism. CAUTION. If you take off the forestock, undo the horizontal screw at the back of the forestock FIRST or you will split the wood.
(F) FTR is Factory Thorough Repair at Fazerkayley, England.

The other markings are prood marks and calibre designations. The rifle was made in 1942, probably by one of the three BSA factories, but at least the first 3 or 4 letters and numbers of the serial number has to be shown to tell which one.

It is better to open a "Photobucket" account ( FREE ) and post individual pictures on Photobucket. Then, you can simply copy the "IMG" number and paste it onto your post. That way, much better pictures can be posted and with the images not moving around, a better look at such things as markings and other details are easily seen. If you are unsure, there are "Stickies" here that will tell and show you how to do it.

If you do plan to restore it, there is one item most folks miss, the rear handguard retaining ring which has been cut off your rifle, without it, the handguard will not stay on the rifle. You might also think aboiut replacing the buttstock or at least getting that shiney crap off of it. Note; there are always plenty of inexpensive buttstocks floating around the market. the forend is another matter, but should be obtainable
