where did you hear this non sense? My M&P shoots just fine

Hahaha.

Funny how FACTS are called nonsense on this forum. There is a place called the U.S. of A where a lot of people shoot for a living, you know, professionals who can easily see just how accurate a gun REALLY is, and have found out that a lot of the M&P9's (not all of them) are mechanically inaccurate (at least compared to what Sigs, Glocks, etc can do, and the other M&P's, the M&P45 is so accurate some have outshot their 1911's with it) some not just at 25 yards but at close range too.

You might have used the term "some" vs "a lot" and your statement would have made more sense. I have read on the M&P Forum there have been some issues with locking blocks and barrel to slide fit. These problems followed some changes in the M&P 9MM compact model. I have three M&P's and none appear to be afflicted by the problem so I haven't pursued the issue.

I would add there are some limitations to the mechanical accuracy of most designs. Comparing the Glock with a Sig 210 or even a Sig 226 is a bit of a stretch. Two of us on the board shot from a rest and at 15 yards the CZ 85 Combat was able to produce tighter groups than the Glock. Does that prove the CZ has more mechanical accuracy than a Glock, probably not but given the two designs I would expect the CZ to out perform the Glock in the accuracy department. So too a tuned 1911 design over the Glock.

Whether or not a particular design is inherently more accurate than another may be of great importance or little depending on the firearms intended use. The Glock/M&P would not be my first choice if I were intending to shoot Olympic Slow Fire but might be top of mind for IDPA SSP Division.

It appears that there is a very real issue with a significant number of 9mm M&Ps, though perhaps not a majority of them. They otherwise look very promising. I guess that if push came to shove, I would rather be stuck with an M&P with poor accuracy than a recent production Glock that won't run right due to extractor/ejector issues.

Hey guys, looking to get my first handgun. I've narrowed it down to 9mm being best for price/power cartridge. Here are my finalists:

Glock 17
Cz p07
Steyr m9a1
Smith n wesson m&p 9

I want a light polymer tactical looking pistol that's reliable and easy to clean as well as a low barrel axis for fast shooing. Are these good choices or am missing something that's better for the price.
Springfield XD or XDm, although the XDm might break your price point in Canada, I'm not certain. I've been very pleased with my XD9 service size (4"). You can also get them in sub compact size (3") or tactical size (5").

If you read the 2nd thread the author changes ammo and the groups reduce to less than 3". This doesn't surprise me. I shot a box of Win White Box ammo out of my CZ85 Combat at 15 yards and the gun wouldn't hold 6" from a rest yet shot Rem UMC into one large hole. Gun or ammo?

Interesting. Thinking I might try shooting from a rest with laser to see what happens. I have shot 1 sub 2" group before at 20yrds, but mostly I'm 5 or so offhand at that distance. This is my first handgun, so I thought I was doing OK.

Don't skimp on a pistol. If there's something that is $1200 that you really want, buy it. Your largest expense will be ammo, not your pistol.

CZ75 is excellent, Shadow better
M&P 9 felt good when I tried one
Sig 226 felt the best-bought it, they are $879 at Cabela's
HK USP, probably my favourite gun now, around $1000

Would like a nice 1911, bigger bucks for a nice one, still saving.

You are, for most that would be considered excellent.

If you can shoot 5" offhand groups at 20 yards, you don't have one of the problem M&Ps. There's no shame in that sort of shooting; a group like that will fit into the head area of an IDPA or Metric silhouette target.

I bought a CZ 75 Shadow SP-01 in March and a Glock 17 Gen 4 in April. Both continue to impress me, but the Shadow is the one I am truly smitten with. 4,000 rounds through it already, but the Glock is catching up. No misfires, jams, or malfunctions from either gun.

Cool, I'll carry on then. Just bought another 300rnds, so that should take me a little over 1000 once I've gone through it.

ON topic: I think my next HG purchase would be a Shadow, but the IWI Jericho is super tempting for less $$. If poly is key for you, I think I'd look into the SR9. And lots of ammo.

S&W M&P9 W/Range Kit $650-$750, best bang for your buck hands down. Comes with M&P9 pistol, 3 magazines, a magzine holder for 2 magazines, a holster for your firearm, 3 interchangeable backstraps, ear plugs, magazine speed loader and pistol case

Any of the ones you listed would be a great 1st pistol. I picked Glock for my first and I really like it. I now own others, not all the ones listed, and I still enjoy my Glock the most.

For feel in the hand, CZ's are pretty hard to beat and they have many models to choose from in your price range. I picked up a CZ75 P07 not too long ago and I like it a lot more than I thought I would (my first plastic gun).
