I have an older (1970's) Remington 700 .30-06 that I was given and would like to use for hunting this year. It is still in great shape and works well. However, as is right now, the LOP is too short for me as it is barely over 13" and I am 6'5.
The butt of the gun is curved (pre flat butt & recoil pad gun). I dont really want to put a slip on pad over the end because it doesnt fit very snug with the curved butt of the stock and I dont want to cut the stock to make it flat as it is in great shape and I will just end up making the stock even shorter. Plus it is in great shape and I dont want to butcher it.
Any suggestions on aftermarket stocks or is there a recoil pad for the curved butt stock that would work? (I have looked with no luck for the pad)
I would prefer something thats not going to be too expensive and that has about a 14" LOP. I would like it to be fairly light as I will be taking this to the mountains hunting for up to a week and don't want to carry much more than I need too.
Thanks for the input!

Just google aftermarket Remington 700 stock and you will get tons of results. They are one of the easier types of guns to find aftermarket for. Boyd's makes fairly reasonably priced laminate stocks or you could go to the more expensive bell and Carlson synthetic. You will have lots of options.

I know there are a ton of options online, most are 13.5" LOP or so. Just wondering if anyone had any reccomendations for a specific stock / place to purchase from. Hard to get one out of the US (other than boyds) for under $100.

Wildcat Composites, Edmonton. Look it up*. Great stocks, super light weight.

I've got 2 of 'em and love them. They are as good as anything on the market.

This my M700 .338WM in a Wildcat Composites stock.

You can buy stocks in several versions, from completely finished to rough blanks that you finish yourself (sand, paint, inlet etc...). I had mine inletted and glass bedded by K&S Arms, Edmonton, with just a plain flat black paint job on both.

I have an HS precision stock from a Long Action Sendero available. has a minor chip at the comb that's covered by a shell holder. $125 plus shipping includes shell holder

It sounds like your stock has already been cut if the LOP is just over 13". Also, if you are 6'5" I think you'll need a stock longer than 14" LOP, unless you hunt while wearing a thick coat or vest? Anyhow, whatever you do I think you'll need to lengthen the stock. A 1" recoil pad will help you (not the slip on boots, they are kind'a clumsy). Have a professional gunsmith add a spacer between the butt and the recoil pad to give you the proper length. Don't worry about the older stock and it's value on the Rem 700. Especially if it's already been cut. Just have yours lengthened by a pro.

Thanks for the input. I am likely going to get a new, lighter stock and have a spacer put in like you are talking about.

Boyds stocks have a lop of 13 3/4" with a 1/2" recoil pad. Replace the pad with a 1" pad would give a lop of 14 1/4". Price for a finished laminate is $92.00 and they ship to Canada.

If your looking for lighter then Wildcat stock as mentioned above is a good route especially if your a bit handy. Below is my wife,s rifle that all in weighs 6lb 8 oz.
