Currently, I am interested in purchasing one of these two firearms and I would like some experiential, rather than just anecdotal, advice about how these two products perform. However, I don't want this thread to resort to a Ruger versus Marlin polemic. Rather, I just want some honest opinions on those who have purchased one, or both, of these guns.

Thanks kindly,

DAC.

I own 2 Papooses and 7 10-22 in differents configuration, the Papoose will outshoot all of them except the SR-22 wich is the most accurate of my semi 22 lr , now value wise the Papoose could be worth a 1000.00, it will still sell good as it is not in production no more and the one they are supposed to bring out from Marlington, we all know, those will be of some lower quality, the takedown 10-22 is a regular 10-22 so it wont be as accurate as a Papoose bonestock... My 0.02 cent... JP.

I haven't had a chance to play with a 10/22 takedown, but have owned/built several 10/22s over the years. I love the Papoose for what it is. Trigger on mine is a bit gritty, but then the Ruger triggers out of the box are not great either. I put a dovetail-to-Weaver adapter on mine and slapped a TRS-25 dot on it. Was amazed how well this little rifle shoots. Not sure I'd pay $1000 for one, but I do like my Papoose !!! Looking at the pics of the Ruger takedown case, I think the Marlin will stow a lot more compactly.

Brought home a 10/22 take down today, am more than impressed.. I never liked the way my Papoose felt, a light plastic feel to it. Both shoot equally well, but the Ruger looks like an actual rifle when assembled, not terribly important for the intention of a survival rifle though.
I do have to say, the case for the 10/22 is pretty darn cool.

I have had a papoose for several years and my 10/22 takedown just arrived today so I am not yet qualified to compare the two against each other. I have 5 other 10/22s though so I can make a few points.

The Marlin is small and light, I think it may be lighter than the 10/22 TD but I have to do a side by side of them first. The Marlin I have is reliable and accurate but what I dont like is the lack of accessories to tune it up a little. No aftermarket parts to deal with the trigger, not a huge choice of scope mounts or replacement Iron sights. And perhaps the part I dislike the most is the small capacity magazines and what I feel is a fragile feeling magazine release mechanism.

Of course what I like with the 10/22 is you can tune it up, lots of choices for magazines, scope mounts, iron sights, and all sorts of after market goodies.

The only thing I dont like about the new 10/22s is the polymer trigger housing and trigger. It just doesnt feel right to me but others are happy with them. Give me good ole metal Ruger parts any day.

I will compare the both side by side at the range soon and see what conclusions I can draw.
