Last weekend, I tried some Harnady Match Superformance 168g with A-Max bullets in my .308 win Savage 10...

First shot I knew right away that the load are more hot.
I inspected the case and there was a discrete gery contour around the primer. I thought the cartridge was to be like that and I had not seen.

I inspected all the others cases after each shots, no overpressure signs...

Then I fired the 10th shot... the bolt was very hard to open...
The case has not ejected and is stuck there...
When I finally get it out, the primer fall into the mag...
At that moment I knew to not shoot another one :yingyang:

I re-inspected all the cases and found another one with overpressure signs but that is much less obvious !!!
So 3 cases out of 10 rounds show overpressure !!! Jeez that's alot !!!

I seriously need to write to Hornady...
I dunno if its a bad batch or what but they must know it.

So people, be carefull with the Superformance !!!
Hornady make really good quality stuff but they just have a technical problem.

Good to know...I've put about 60 rounds through my 700LTR as it find it the most accurate out of what I've used, but I did notice that the primers were crimped.

Was your batch crimped?

ben, Call hornady, pick up the phone and call them, you will get much faster response. They have zillions of emails to sift through, they take this stuff seriously and respond much faster, like instantly when you phone. I have been through this twice now with ammo manufactureres, and know others who have also, and the phone is the way to go. Google the number, call the U.S. and they will quickly get you the name and number of who to call in Canada and where to send it. That is the fastest way to get this taken care of.

I went though this same thing with some WIN AMMO in my 7mmSTW about 10 or so yrs ago. I called WIN and they gave me the CAN REP's number. I called him, and because it was shot out of a custom barrel, he basically told me it was the fault of the rifle , and that all the ammo is pulled regularly on every run aand tested ! Unless I was willing to ship my gun to WIN and have them shoot it there was nothing he was going to do for me ,other than send me a $50 gift cert to buy what ever kind of ammo I wanted. SO thats what ended up happening, and I shoot reloads only, and have had NO problems since !

I give them until tomorrow to answer the email.
After that I'll call.

I would hate to see someone get hurt because of it...

try pulling a few bullets, weigh your charges and count the different kinds of powder per load...

That could be an interesting test to do but I think Hornady will want to make their own test with the 10 remaining rounds...

What was the outside temp i came across this with my own reloads useing hornady bullets [168 match HTSPBT] and a middle of the road load with H380?They didn't do it before this day in ? was a extra hot day with the same load.

Hornadys test with the remaining ten rounds will be "they were perfectly fine". Regardless if they were good or not. But they might say they'll pull those lots for quality control purposes.

I'd say dig out 2 scales and the video camera and bust em apart. pour the charge on one scale then on the other to prove your scales not reading wrong.

Maybe I just got my tinfoil hat on...

He guys, If you search snipershide forum, there was a pretty big thread on the same thing, more specificly the 178g superformance, If I remeber right it came down to a certain lot numbers.

I shoot the 178g match, and have nothing but outstanding results, no presure signs.

Here's the Hornady answer...

Benoit,

We apologize for this issue. Do you happen to have the item number and lot number from the box?

Thank you.
