Newbie Going for Registration

So, I called the toll free number today, and a very nice lady told me that everything was OK with my application, but they were not ready to conduct my interview.

She said to call back on Friday (4th).

So far, so good!

Reference interviews have been conducted...now the waiting game.

I will call them early next week to see if they have any further questions.

ARRRGGHH!!!

Well, one of my references said he called, but it turned out he was told to call back and didn't.

An interesting point of all this is that the lady on the phone at the RCMP said that once they are done the initial application screening, and done the interviews, it gets sent to the provincial CFO for further background checks (her words), and at this time, there is a 45 day waiting list for the provincial CFO's to complete the process.

This is absolute BS. 45 days after the 28 days? Where is this noted on the website? All it says is that it may take 45 days total, if everything is OK.

So now, apparently, as soon as reference 2 calls in to do the interview, I can look forward to a further 45 days, then back to the RCMP, so they can make up the card, and 5 or so more days to mail it out to me.

Crazy.

I feel for ya.

The 45 days on the website are the minimum/average time.
The CFOs can hold things up as long as they want to on top of that. 6 months if they feel like it.

I have been waiting for my NR PAL for 55 days as of the 25th, I called on day 45 and was told it was still at the BC CFOs, and it is apparently still sitting at the CFOs.

What bugs me even more than the CFO delay (and I know I will get flamed by some for saying this) is that some people who call get bumped up and completed right away while the rest of us are left waiting for no good reason, it should be first-in-first-out no exceptions unless your paperwork has a problem.

mine was received april 23 and just today it is approved and issued should be here in a couple weeks :) this was for an upgrade from my pal to my rpal so no 28 day wait and no fee.. i credit my speedy application processing to calling and asking what is the status a lot. and getting my references to call in as soon as it was ready for them. they do keep track of how much you call though im probably flagged as a nuisance caller lol. i just wanted to make sure there were no unnecessary delays ie: waiting for references to call in. now lets see how long it takes to get my LTATT and can pick up my new toy :D

That absolutely bites the big one!

I'm at the 35 day mark following receiving my application. 2 of three interviews were done last week, the third was done this past Tuesday. Im waiting the 10 more days before bothering them.

All indications are that there has been an increase license applications. In the real world, when your work load increases, you hire more people to keep up the standard of service.

So, apparently, the CFP/CFO don't think this is necessary, and allow the quality of service to deteriorate.

I suggest that every person who comes in contact with a politician over the next little while, lets them know about this situation, and when it comes down to supporting public servant salary increases, we start letting them know how we feel about it.

According to the RCMP, BC CFO license approvals right now, are running 45 days, restricted firearm registrations (date from transfer received to receipt of registration card), is 30 days.

I got a call from Christy Clark's office yesterday looking for my vote in the upcoming BC election. Instead, they got two barrels of verbal rant.

I really honestly don't think I will receive my license before summer is over. I am hoping to be able to buy, have registered, and be able to shoot my first restricted by Christmas.

I know that at some point, this will all be behind me, and that I should have some patience, but I have never seen such a bureaucratic screw around, as the process I have embarked upon.

rant off

those people must have thought oh i will just wait and let them do their thing. i will call them twice a week till the damn thing is issued. and probably apply for my renewal 6 months before its due.....

I tell anyone who asks that they should renew at least 6 months ahead of the expiry date.

I'm still waiting for my PAL. Coming up to day 60 soon. And I've called, so calling doesn't always make them work any faster.

Everyone telling everyone else to call every day is probably part of why we are all waiting so long, because they are having to waste time answering the phone for people who call starting on day one and call every day after that, regardless of waiting periods etc.

it's not about making them work faster god knows that aint gonna happen. i may over exaggerate when i say twice a week but once it says in progress it's fair game. and i don't spend more than 1 minute usually talking to them it's a simple question whats the status of my application. if you are not in a hurry by all means just wait longer. i had mine approved and issued in 5 weeks by staying on top of it and making sure my references called in promptly. i am an upstanding citizen and they work for us the people don't forget that.

This is why I didn't go for the RPAL along with my PAL. I was told the RPAL delays could be lengthy, so figured I would add the RPAL later if I really wanted it. In the meanwhile the PAL process was super fast for me.... issued 28 days after it started.

OK, so that's it. My second reference called in today and did the interview.

I guess it will go to the BC CFO office for their prolonged tickle...

Dakk...my intent was always to get my RPAL, because I wanted to buy a pistol. So I didn't have any intention of buying a long rifle first.

I do intend to call once a week for an update...

Then comes the wait for the ATT...

Then the Registration card...

Maybe...just maybe...I might be able to shoot my pistol around Christmas.
