loadmaster powder measure variation

Hi, I am using loadmaster with powder measure.

WC735 charges seem to vary by .5 grains up and down. Powder seems to stick all around the measure also.

So I have to adjust at +- 33.5 average, and I get charges between 33 and 34.

also, some powder sticks inside, and when I lwer the arm and the plate indexes, some powder falls everywhere on the shellplate....

Happens to you? Fix?

That is a high variance. Sticking powder is the likely cause (which you have already identified as happening) - and sticking powder is a) residual oils in the system and b) static electricity.

For a), clean everything in the powder path with rubbing alcohol (99% isopropyl) or any other degreaser that won't attack plastic.

For b) then wipe everything down with a "Bounce" dryer sheet.

Then run a few hoppers through; the carbon on the outside of the powder will coat the powder path and gradually slick things up.

On a loadmaster, it is also possible that the "elastomer wiper" insert is too short and powder is leaking just because it can. When you push the disk / charge bar back and forth with your fingers (no powder), you should feel a modest amount of drag from the wiper - you can try snugging-up the the brass hopper nuts (finger-tight) but there is a limit, and the assembly has to move readily enough to not snap the bead chain on the downstroke. I tried a few of the wipers before finding one that was a "perfect" fit. They're cheap.

If the wiper turns out to be the issue, once you find the "perfect" fit it will leak less than comparable measures, especially with small-grain powders. WC735 is not "small", but it can leak.

There are always a few grains of powder in and around a shellplate - but less is more here.

Wow, that odd. I've been loading with a load master for 5 years and have never had that problem. As a matter of fact, mine has never strayed dialed in. Always 100 percent same load

was grease + static electricity. grease is gone, need bounce for static....
