I bought a black hawk folding pistol grip for my mossberg 500 but was sent the wrong grip. It fits a winchester model 1300. since they messed up on my order they discounted my grip substantially. So i decided to keep it. Now I am having the hardest time finding a model 1300! Does anybody either have or know where to get one? they were last manufactured in 2005.

Thanks

Just hunt the EE for them, I wasn't much of a fan of the 1300. It was a quick shotgun, but mine unlocked compteley and ejected as if it were a semi on firing with 3". Partial unlocking was a design feature of the 1300 but it was erratic in actual operation.

You're better off hawking the stock, and reordering for your Mossberg, it's a better gun and I say that as a Winchester fan.

All pump action shotguns unlock when fired. Shoot any pump without a hand on the forearm and the action will move to the rear, most will eject the round.

I see Defenders for sale all the time at local gunshows. I'd pick one up but I really want a 20ga version.

Appreciate the tip, but yes I'm aware it would be hard to pump them otherwise. I likely didn't explain the phenomena well enough, I mention it in one of my articles. With 3" my brand new 1300 would send the forend back so hard it would rip out of your hand. This wasn't an uncommon issue with the 1300, and you hear about cracked 1300 receivers more than Mossberg or Rem. The 1300 unlocked partially during the actual firing as a design feature, the "speed pump", and I don't believe it was a sound idea. The Mossbergs and Rem will be in production decades more, there are reasons the 1300 didn't survive and become an iconic action as well.

The bolt lock on the Winchester releases sooner after firing than a Remington or Mossberg so recoil sort of assists the next pump. Unfortunately both of the 1300s we had at work developed cracks at the top of the receaiver within a couple of years.

My receiver has developed a crack down beside the magazine tube. I would love to make a 12.5" barrel NFA registered SBS out of it because I love the action so much, but I have a few questions.

1. I have shot this quite a bit since knowing the crack was there (I thought it was a scratch), and it seems to be fine. Should I replace the receiver?

2. If the answer to number one is yes, where would I get one?

Weird...I've never had an issue like your discribing in the 18 years or so that I've owned mine. One of my truely NEVER sell guns.

...and Turkish manufacture now no? Haven't bothered to look into the rumours. With 2 3/4" it tied for the fastest pump I've ever used, but 3" mag yikes!

I haven't looked into it either because, honestly, it is a moot point if they are. Turkish manufactured guns are just as good as, and in many cases better than, most low end products coming out of the USA.

The issue with the 3" ammo you talk about puzzles me becasue I have shot over 20 000rds thru a Model 2200 with +/- 2500 of those being handloaded for geese and eiders. They contained 2oz of #4 and/or #2 lead shot. I have never had the forend pulled out of my hand...not once in the rain, not once at -15c wearing gloves...and the checkering was worn baby butt smooth on the forearm!

i am looking for the synthetic furniture. I called blackhawk. and they said that my grip will not fit the new turkish made shotguns. maybe he didnt know what he was talking about.

The old Winchester 1200/1300 buttstock is chevron shaped where it joins the receiver. The new Turkish guns are straight, so no, the Blackhawk buttstock won't work. Other parts may be different on the new Turkish versions as well. I hear the mag tube and cap are all aluminum.

Speedfeed makes a forearm for the 1300, don't know if it's compatible with new versions or not.
