New M305, *really* difficult to release mags

ive owned a couple of the older 2007 M305s, and had no problems like this.
its really difficult to remove mags from my new M305 shorty.

is this something that can be addressed with some sortof stock fitting/adjustment, or am i SOOL?

regardless, should i pick up an extended mag release? is there any significant difference between the Sadlak and the Pro Mag? they look identical but the Pro Mag is 2/3 the cost.
 
i ground off as much as i dared - theres less than a mm of the rivet protruding now. it improved things (mags arent frustratingly 'locked' in the gun anymore) but theyre still a bit hard to remove.

will an extended mag release help? and have you tried the Sadlak and Pro Mag one? how do they compare?

I've got one. (not sure which, might be nea?)

gives a little more leverage. Made removing the five rounders a lot easier sp might work for the 20's as well.

may have to trim the spring a little, but in terms of upgrades, the extended mag release will be on every one of my m14's.

yeah thats what i do :)
i assume that since this is a battle rifle theres going to be no casual button-pressing and the mag just drops out :)

so i grab the mag with my trigger hand and while pressing the mag release firmly in against the mag with my index finger i tip the mag out. it just kindof sticks sometimes though and the mag doesnt budge - so its anything but fluid.
then again i may just be doing something wrong - im no Chris Costa, im just an ordinary guy :(

i was looking at the Norinco mag release, and the inner bearing surface that engages the mag is not straight: its tilted off to the side, meaning its engaging the mag tab at an angle instead of flat against it. could this be part of the issue?
 
I had the same issue with my shorty. I found I had to press real hard on the release with my thumb while pushing the bottom of the mag with the heel of my palm to get a 20rd mag out. It was so stiff that it was starting to hurt my delicate welder hands. After inserting/removing a mag repeatedly while watching TV (and wearing gloves) I find that the mags are noticeably easier to take out now.
 
Mine was almost unusable at first, but loosened after a few days of fiddling around. Put on a movie and just put the mag in and pull the mag out for about 2 hours... should loosen up.

I had to phrase that very carefully, if you know what I mean...
 
Is it possible the main spring GUIDE...is out of spec? Slightly?

I ask because the "main spring guide" also forms the point at which the front of the mag engages...so if it's dimensions are even SLIGHTLY out of spec, or not fully deburred, my guess is that could interfere with perfect magazine mounting.

There are several makers here in Canada that make the "National Match spring guide" in high quality versions, and since it's an inexpensive part, and a significant part of improving accuracy, it'd be worth buying regardless of solving this issue.
 
I had problems with one of my Norc mags too. For me it had to do with the plate at the rear of the mag, there are four spots where it's tacked onto the magazine body, and one of these "tacks" stood up from the plate about 3/32ish higher than the plate itself. It'd go in fine, but I had a helluva time getting it out. In the end, all I had to do was grind/sand that "tack" down...

no tacks sticking out on the mag, and both mags are doing it the same so i assume its the gun.
i dont think its the oprod spring guide, since there is no problem with the front 'pivot' of the mag. its just that the rear takes a LOT of force on the mag release to be able to tip the mag out.
i will do as suggested and just break it in a bit.

Right, but what I mean is that if the guide is ever so slightly REARWARD...it might be "pushing" the mag rearward, giving the impression that the rear of the magwell is out of spec possibly...

I'm no expert in things M-14, just throwing out the idea that you could try someone else's spring guide, even another Norc guide might solve the issue. Or not! :D

I'm just thinking that putting one of those extended releases wouldn't solve this problem of yours. Buy one if you want, but buy it for the convenience, not the solution to this manufacturing fault.
 
Replacing the mag release lever roll pin solved all the mag problems I was having with my 07 Norc. The pin was shattered length wise and bent. Had issues locking mags in place and removing them. Changed the roll pin out at the Spruce Grove clinic and haven't had an issue since.

my new shorty has the same issue with stuck mags, but its realy the leaste of my concerns.
it also has issues with rounds exploding and separating in the chamber, hard extractions, miss fires and #### flying back into my face... the bolt only has solid contact on one lug,head spacing is wack and the indexing is off. I think I just paid $450 for a parts gun, only all the parts are worthless.
