Took a Mosin Finn "B" barreled rifle out to shoot today. Lots of fun and quite accurate with some surplus fodder( cartridges in wax paper&string wrapping, faint yellow on tips shot really well, better than some silver tipped stuff ). Problem, the cleaning rod keeps sliding forward. It does not seem to thread into anyhting to secure it. What's up?
With a scope I think this particular rifle would be surprisingly accurate. That tiny front sight is a loooong way out there for my old eyes.

the lug it screws into may be plugged up with something [cosmoline? is it new?] I had something of the same problem with an M24/47.

Stripped thead on cleaning rod, recoil lug where rod screws in or both of them.

Inspect both treads, clean with brass wirebrush (remove action from stock for this) ,see how rod screws in and if it holds.
Find correct size taps and fix threads if needed.
