Yeah, but it's the cartridge case that's steel, not the bullet core. Steel cored bullet might make sparks and that might make something ignite down range if it's REALLY dry but low velocity cartridge cases landing on the ground near your feet?

My M305 standard length has metric flash-hider threads. I don't know about the shorty as I have not been able to remove the flash-hider... yet.

no one, afaik. But you use your Norc castle nut for most of the after market comps like SEI or SAI

I kind of like the existing flash hider but I was thinking of a Vortex.

SEI makes a Vortex slip on type flashider where you can use your existing castle nut. The problem is getting them to ship flashider up here. This is what I got from Brownells when I ordered a SAI Flashider/comp so I still waiting on Springfield armoury to see if they will send me one.

yup! Secure the barrel in a barrel vise (or clamp it to a work bench)... use a brass punch on the bayonet lug and whack it with a big F'n hammer. its a bit intimidating, but mine came off in one whack.

mine is welded on, on have the shorty.

Same as my XCR. What a pain in the ass. Is it pin welded or welded all the way around?

Sounds like the XCR then. So all you do is drill out the pin without damaging the threads and it should twist off. I do think get why they do that. It's an American thing.

Ya, that's right. Why would they do it then? On the XCR it doesn't have to be welded either. The barrels are 18.6" without the comp. I know they have to on their 14.5" versions, but Wtf?

It is a military factory, they don't think that way. As I said above, we have now convinced them to not weld them.
