Hi,

This is the newest addition to my collection. It previously belonged to a local collector friend, and he got it years ago from a very old collection. This is a pre-war 1938 Luftwaffe Mauser 98K.

All matching numbers including the cleaning rod. Sling is also 1938 dated and I believe also original to the gun.

Still needs a little cleaning, but I'm very happy to have this one in my safe. I hope you enjoy the pics, I know there are some serious 98k guys on here and all comments are welcome!

That is a beauty, congratulations and thanks for showing!
Easy, VERY easy, on the cleaning.

Im not much of a prewar guy, but that is an amazing example! Good score.

I agree with joe, that needs basically no cleaning. I assume you wont shoot it, so just oil the metal and wipe the dust off the wood.

Thanks for the comments guys! I'm a big USGI guy, but this gun has already grown on me.

I won't be shooting this gun. I plan on just gently oiling it and wiping it off as needed. Of course nothing that would risk any damage! Thoughts on how to best preserve the sling are welcome.

Thanks.

Laminated stock on a 1938 rifle, that is a really early use of that type of stocking material.

Dont put anything on the sling. No need. Ive got three slings, one 1938 and its nice and pliable. Just dont store it in too dry an area, or direct light all the time. Also too moist is t great either.

Thanks for the advice, it's being stored in my dark safe and I keep the moisture under control.

Between yours and CanadianAr's BYF these are IMO the finds of the year:D

Thanks Joe, we know your collection of K98's is very impressive! I agree, CanadianAR is on track with a wicked collection.

jbmauser: I've been enjoying watching your threads such as "saved this K98 from bubba". Respect.

On my 38 sling there was a very cool mark, but so hard to see. On the back. Nice Joseph Moll stamp, with city and date. But oh so faint.

Thanks Steve. You got a great start now too. I try hard but it pays off.
Its one thing I like about the K98 game in canada. Someone with deep pockets cant just buy what he wants. With lots of collectors and not as many guns, everyone has to do their legwork.
