First Pistol: Browning 1911-22, opinions?

So the two people who joined in March and May of 2012 both think I'm an idiot.

Got it. f:P:2:

I didn't say you were an idiot. In fact, up until now all I've used were smileys and you deduced the rest on your own ;)

I wasn't aware that your join date had any relation to competence. Given the OP's stated use the 1911-22 is probably the worst choice, that's pretty clear :HR: f:P:2::wave:

P.S. Look through this thread again. I'm sure you'll find more than two of us who thought you were off your rocker. Someone even thought you might be drunk :D :p :)

What's the VERY FIRST criteria one must consider when purchasing a new handgun? RELIABILITY.

I've shot 1000ish rounds through TWO Browning 1911-22's without a single problem.

LOL all you want.

What do you shoot? A Glock conversion? LOL.

First Criteria, is reliability, second is sights, and third is trigger. Let me know when your round count approaches the 20,000 mark.;)

Right, I think all of you are "off your rockers".

OP wants a "first pistol" for "plinking at the range" and MAYBE bullseye shooting, but the sights on the 1911-22 "don't bother him".

Based on that information, EXACTLY what criteria do you feel would make the 1911-22 not a suitable choice?

Let me ask you, have any of you ever fired the 1911-22? Have you EVER even held it in your hands?

I'm not sure whether to LOL or cry at some of the "advice" given out on this website sometimes.

ETA: And BTW, I've owned a Buckmark, a Sig Mosquito and I currently own TWO 1911-22's.

Don't worry U.P., I think he's a knob and I've been here longer than him (which apparently makes me irrefutably right) :stirthepot2:

Easy boys.
Things are good. Mr. Spectacular is just a little cut and dry. He means we'll. The Browning 1911-22 is a nice pistol. A little small for my hands, but a pretty decent pistol, none the less. The quality is there. I've shot one now and they are accurate little buggers. I'm not a big guy and I would still want to pick something like the GSG1911-22 but that's me. If he wants the Browning, quality is amazing and so is the plinkability. (new word I made up) So as far as things go, I would see. I problem with this as his choice. If he wants to do something else later, more specialized, then he will learn to buy the right tools for the right job. It's simple. It's not so much a passing match to see who I knows more. I'm thinking he wanted to have a nice friendly post. Lol!

I only see one person trying to piss, I don't blame the noob for anything.

Where's the maybe here?

Plan to use for plinking at the range and to get into casual competitive shooting (bullseye)

Making $hit up...PRICELESS.

Back on topic. OP: Get the Buck Mark, it's better suited for BOTH your needs. I'm selling a Ruger, hint, hint, just kidding around.

Well who wouldathunk this would become such a contentious thread.

I had a chance to hold the 1911-22. Jewel-like. Felt small in my hands but had a sense of quality and novelty to it.

Then I handled the Buckmark Camper. It felt right. Perhaps not as special as the 1911-22 but seems like a logical first handgun.

So now I sit here with a pile of snap caps anxiously awaiting my ATT and dreaming about the next one... an old school Colt 1911...

Honestly,
The 1911-22 is still fantastic. I'll be buying one eventually too. If it has that feel that you like, don't listen to anyone else. It's personal perception and taste that matters here.

Butt-hurt aside, my only complaint about the gun is that they need to release a new, extended beaver tail grip safety for it.

The hammer bite from prolonged shooting can be pretty bad.

Assembly tolerances are good, trigger is not bad, and sights are terrible.

apart from that, I too hope to get one in the near future.

But I keep finding more accurate ones to shoot and collect.:D

Lol,
The big problem isn't what gun you want, its how many gun safes you'll need.

Amen to that. But I use a secure room. Safes are too small. Lol.

I also have a pet peeve on pistol cases.
Do you know how difficult it is to find decent cases for my silhouette pistols?
The Exemplar's are the toughest. 22" OAL.

I'm finding that I have to use a rifle case, otherwise there is just no room!!
